We use a foot shear to cut aluminum all the time. About the thickest we cut regularly is .050 with no problem. .080 might give a bit of a problem.

That's what I've always heard called a stomp shear. I use mine all the time to cut up to 080 aluminum. It will cut thicker stuff I guess but I don't weigh enough to do it, ...yet. But that's a whole other topic.
P.S. I also use it to cut 10mm coroplas. Works great and always straight.
