White gold will tarnish! It is 50% silver...that's the part that tarnishes! If it is interior, good chance that it won't tarnish, if it is in an office, or such place. If it is near a kitchen or industrial site, better clear coat it.
Platinum leaf is what you could use the next time.

Thanks Si. Would the varnish I cleared the wood with be enough to prevent tarnishing? I'm assuming it's just exposure to the air that causes it, correct?

Better to use clear acrylic or two component urethane because the sulfur in the solvent in conventional varnishes will tarnish the silver to a nice purple hue with an undertone of gold. Looks pretty but probably not the effect you desire. If you seal in some contamination, it might tarnish anyway. Next time use Palladium leaf or aluminum.

Terry... I'd just brush a little OneShot 4005 over it. The I even do this on small vehicle graphics, if we're not clearing the whole job afterwards (like if it's just an embellishment withen a striped area) The white gold will tarnish, no if's ands or buts.

White gold will tarnish...slowly, depending on conditions. I used some on a sign that went outdoors, with no clear coat. It has taken on a brownish tint, very slowly, over the past seven years, but is still a long way from turning black.
