Looks like I may have to bite the bullet and buy that motor from Gerber. Searched and searched...nothin'

Any one got an old 4B that's been torn apart for parts and would be willing to sell me a motor?

Luckily it's a backup plotter, but we do prefer to use it for cutting sandblast mask.

Pat,

I know how it can be with a plotter or puter down. I was informed that there is another company that actually does (or did) build the computers for Gerber. You've got mail.
And I am still checking to see if I can find out anything for you. It's a long shot, but the person that saw the guts of my 4b said his dad's company used to build these before they had a name. There must be a generic origin at least for the parts, possibly.

HI Pat!

Did you call Superior? I think that must be an original motor in my machine,too much coincidence that it also comes from CT, the Mineba must be an aftermarket motor, I can understand Gerber marking the product up for having it in stock etc, but $120 in difference between one stepper motor and another. If Superior wont sell you direct, they must sell to other people who dont mark up as much as Gerber, maybe Lori Stepp could point you in the right direction? THe motors I have have no GSP stamp on them or anything to do with Gerber, it must be an off the shelf component? I did a quick search on the web before and got what I gave you....you have many Gerber dealers over there someone must be willing to sell you a motor from a scrap machine that would suffice for your back-up....thats what my Sprint and S750 have become for me now, otherwise I would send you one of mine.

Good luck in your searching!

Just one other thing....the motor is definetly knackered`? is it? I have had problems sometimes and thought the motor was jammed up and when you open the plotter and remove the motor sometimes you find small Vinyl/backing paper centres mashed up in the little drive cogs clean them out with a pin and off you go again....just a thought!

Try this salvage/surplus company, Herbach & Rademan at:

<href=http://www.herbach.com>

They have several steppers in their catalog and more stuff on the web.
