Read it thru and you will see why having 1 meg of memory does not help you and why windows does not take advanage of more than ABOUT 500 megs of ram. ...
And it will explain why having all 2000 fonts installed is not good either, (hmm no wonder corel keeps on crashing for some people),,,,

Well curtis....that is a whole lotta readin' there. And messin' with things inside the 'puter that should not be messed with by people like me. I have deleted things that I shouldn't have deleted before and messed up my computer totally. But my computer may be so messed up, that this could be the reason why I never got your marketing tips email. Posts: 3729 | From: Seattle | Registered: Sep 1999

There is some interesting reading there, but I believe that it only applies to a Win9x based os. Windows 2000 and XP will use more ram. I've got 1 gig of PC2700 DDR ram on XP here at home, and it moves.

Good timing Curtis, I have just been dealing with this issue this morning. I remember your comments to my inquiry about system resources & I am still, slowly but surely, trying to get my "selective start-up" tweaked to just the right minimum requirements for my particular computers needs.
I experimented with unchecking tons of stuff in the system configuration utility (accessed by clicking start-run & typing "msconfig")mentioned in the page your link above included. My first experiment made several things worse, so I checked most things back "on" again. The few I thought I could leave off resulted in my PCanywhere to not allow remote access anymore, so I checked all boxes back on again.
Thanks to Terry Nicholson from Graphic Specialties (who also replied to my post about system resources)I got that same list provided by your above link.
I just installed PCanywhere to run my second office computer as a remote acess to my first office computer. This will allow me to trouble shoot which programs I can afford to un-check (relative to PCanywhere) without driving home to check each scenario.
I guess I got about 512 megs too many in both of my office machines. Maybe when I learn Flexi enough to remove CasMate, I will move up to XP & hopefully my ram will no longer be un-usable.

I just noticed the list I got from Terry seems to be more complete and finding a link on it I was able to locate it's place in cyberspace (got mine via email) so here is the link for others who may need it.
