I call them Mysteries of the Universe! Especially with computers.
I have a Mac G4, OS 9.2.2, and a super drive to burn CD's. Just by chance after burning a CD, I put it in my other computer (Mac Clone, running OS 7.5), and up came the error message 'this disk is unreadable, would you like to initialize it?'. So I ejected it and took it to my Mac 7100/66AV...same error message. Took it to my friends computer who bought a Mac same time as me...wouldn't open.
Any ideas? Anyone have a similiar problem?
I am downloading the 7.5.1 updater just to see if the ?language? my G4 burned the CD in is incompatible with my older computers CD players?!? i know it doesn't seem logical since it didn't open in my friends G4. Even took it to my dealer, he burned 2 CD's and they opend on an older mac he had with OS 8, and newer models too. Damn, just like bringing in a car...and it doesn't make the 'noise' when the service tech starts it up!!
Thanks ahead of time.

Check all the settings in the software you use for burning the disc. If you dont "finalize" the disc, it cannot be read by other machines, or rather other machines that do not have a SuperDrive as well.

I had a similar problem with my pc's.

As it turned out, the new burner was too fast for my old cdrom's.

I resolved the issue by switching to 1x-4x compatible cd-rw's when I'm burning for my slower machines.

I use toast to burn disks and always burn at 2x.
Still works pretty fast that way. And always use the write disk command. If you use write session, it wont show up on the other computers. Least thats been my experience. I had the same problem you did at one time, and this fixed it.

Some conflicts were reported between Apple CD Burner and Toast. I recommand you to disable any extension piece from the one you choose to not use (i.e CD Burner) and to update Toast to its latest version. Could solve any problems like the one you meet.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have/use Toast to burn my CD's, the application is an Apple one.

The issue about closing the sessions...the procedure always closes it by default as far as I can tell.

This is a quick reply...I've got some other things to add once I get time to do some screen captures...then try posting them via the new picture posting method here in Letterville

See you later!
