I've already thanked him personally but I'm so thrilled about having it, I want to show it off to everyone! [Big Grin]

On the "Testing HDU" post, I made some smart ass comment about carving one of his Signature Brushes out of HDU and sending it to me for "testing". Well, yesterday, look what showed up in the mail! It's not HDU, but I guess it'll do. [Wink]

Signature Brush

Thanks again Joe!

Can't say for sure what kind, but knowing Joe, I'd bet money it's some type of hardwood.

Nice huh? Untill you have seen one of Joe's striper's up close and personal you can't appreciate the beauty and detail.

Terry, you deserve it for all the work you have put into the panel draw.

Wow!!! What a surprise! Terry, if I knew you were gonna post it, I would have sent you a good one [Razz] [Wink]

Ok, Details:

The brush is about 7" long and is made of "birdseye maple" (birdseye describes the swirling patterns of grain), all hand carved (no sanding) with a glided wrap. Plus a TON of semigloss laquer.

It's mounted with foam tape to set it above the panel.

The panel is 1 3/4"x9". The face is Blood Wood laminated to a piece of "fiddle back" or "tiger" maple (both terms describe the undulating grain pattern). Some times these panels will be made up of as many as 5 different layers. In sign makers terms..... [Wink] .....light face, red pinstrip outline, pinstripe shadow, reflective outline, pinstrip shadow, pinstripe outline......5 layers, about 3/8" thick.....three woods.....whew!

This is a panel that you have to hold and move to see how each piece of wood reflects the light, and changes while you move it....sorta "holographic" ? Sorta like a glass piece.......

Any way.....the LETTERHEADS MADE ME DO IT!!! [Smile]

Terry, Thank You for getting this project going.....now that it's crunch time, it's beginning to feel like a real meet with everyone rushing to get their panels finished before they go home! [Smile]

Joe,

It probably took Joe about 30 seconds to carve.

I got to see it for my self today. What a masterpiece and i can't believe that there was no sanding involved.

Thanks for sharing Terry.

I got one of these beautiful brushes from Joe a few years back, and I disply it proudly in my office. My only problem is that it still wont pull a straight line!
