My wife is a expert cake decorator and tonight she asks me how much a book of 22K leaf costs because she read that it can be used to frost cakes! Guess I never heard of that one.
Anyone else?

I had to burn a screen for a baker at one of the upscale resorts here. They said they would be printing "real" gold onto some kind of chocolate cake.

Eating and drinking gold leaf is safe! Gold is inert and will simply pass right through you unchanged! Only 2 things will affect gold (Aqua Regia and Cyanide), and hopefully you don't have any of them in your body! Otherwise, it doesn't matter what you eat!
PS In many places, gold or silver leaf is placed on cakes and pasteries, as a show of wealth and power.

Yes, it is edible. Today I was surfing to find a gilder's tip and ran across a site that featured a really beautifully garnished table. I was shocked! Think I'll spend the extra bucks on ribeyes though.

Tell her to get it from one of your suppliers (Esoteric maybe?) instead of one of her culinary sources. It will be cheaper. The culinary sources try and lead you to believe that they are selling special, edible food-grade gold leaf and charge you more. It's all the same stuff.

Gold is one of the only metals that will not be effected at all by the digestive system, most other metals i.e. copper, steel, brass... will be effected, I wasn't around but during the gold rush but alot of people would swallow the bits of gold they found so as to not get mugged for their loot, but then they would have to pan for it again in a few days!

Gold shots, (vaccinations) are used frequently for arthrietis patients, and work very well. They are expensive at about 100.00+ a pop. I'm not sure is they are given intermusclular or interveiniously.

My Dad used to delight in rubbing scrap gold leaf into his knuckles and making it disappear, He claimed it kept him from getting arthritis. Maybe it did, he lived to be 90 without ever having any. He always said that the Hindu's sprinkled gold on their food. I don't know but I have seen it dissolve into your pores so it couldn't be much of an effect on anything, except your pocketbook.
