Hey Steve and Barb (and anyone else that chats or wants to chat) I've got a nifty new chat that I found yesterday.
IRC is dyin, the servers are droppin like crazy and it's getting harder to connect every day.
It's kinda interesting.. it can be accessed via an IRC network AND a Java applet in a web browser. It uses the same commands as IRC so it's familiar, but people that dont know the ways of IRC can still get into chat with their web browser.

Interesting idea Mike. I just added irc.webmaster.com to my servers list and #stickerpimp to my channels list. The server came up immediatly, which is a refreshing change from recent months on DalNet. Of course when I entered #stickerpimp there wasn't anyone there. So why don't you pick a time and we'll see if we can make contact and test it out?
If you mention a time, of course, remember to specify the time zone!

Thanks for the tip Mike! Our chat channel has always been the heart of Letterville. This is where we get to actually meet and talk to our fellow Lettervillians. In the past 6 years, we've all made close new friends and some of us have made VERY close new pals.
We've been looking at new chats for sometime. IRC Chat is very popular with our current users because of it's features. Java based chats that we have tried in the past are slow and kind of boring after IRC.
Our goal remains to find a easy to use chat with all the features of IRC. It would be nice to host the chat on our own server but at this point, we just cannot afford it.
Let's test drive this chat Mike has found. It's the same old IRC chat you are familiar with but the java code makes it easier for new chatters to join the fun.
You will find the new chat at www.letterhead.com/chat.html We have called the new chat #letterville. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
I'd like to ask Dave and other IRC power users to pass the word about this new chat location. Barb and I will be away most of today and it would sure be a comfort to know you guys and gals are doing our job while we are away.

Steve....I'll be on chat this afternoon, around 5pm EST, and we will play around with it and see if it is possible to use both variations, mIRC and java on the browser, to communicate.

Good idea Karen! I had Steve create a temporary chat icon at the top of the BB. It's green with white letters reading CHAT. Click on it to go to the new chat we are testing out.

For those that prefer the look and feel of the mIRC chat client, dont forget you can use mIRC to log into the new chat room!
In the "Options" screen, add irc.webmaster.com to the server list, then in the channels folder, add #letterville
Users that choose the web browser method cannot send files back and forth, but users that use mIRC CAN. However, mIRC users cannot send files to the browser users.
Keep that in mind.. if you like swapping files back and forth you need to use mIRC to log in, if not then the browser is fine. Eventually everyone will get with the times and setup their own webpages and store files there so anyone can see them. =)
