Good day to all!My question is:What preparation,
or what type of primer do I use on zinc plated brackets? I want to finish with one-shot enamel.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

I don't know if it will work the same but this is the way I prime galvanized.

Wipe with vinegar.

Then with laquer thinner

Then with Mineral spirits.

Let dry.

Prime with galvanized metal primer. The brand I used was Glidden (I think)

The sign has been there (topcoated with white paint), for 9 years, I drive by it every and haven't noticed any rust or paint coming off.

When zinc coatings (galvanizing) are pickled with vineagar or muratic, some areas do not etch completely and can fail after many years or days. You can be assured of a good finish durability if you prime the CLEAN surface with acrylic primer such as Chromatic waterborne Universal Primer 1008. Other acrylics work to some degree but we reformulated this one some years ago to resist the oxidizing effect of the zinc/water entrapment.
