I have been elected as secretary for our local remote control boat racing club. We are a non-profit club.
I have been put in charge of creating and managing our new website (we don't have one now).

Has anyone got any suggestions for hosting services???? I know most give you some space for a personal site, but this is for a club and we want our own domain name.

Thanks in Advance

Wow Troy, my dad just happens to build 4 point outrigger hydros. Ever heard of a Broussard Hydro or as they're called now Cajun Bullet Hydros. I just did a website for him because people wanted to see the boats so I thought this would be good way to go about it. He's been doing the boat thing for about 20 years now and has been the president of his club for quite a while in the past, now he's the treasurer. I go every now and then to the pond but i'm not too interested in it. He's in Florida for the (i think) internats in Orlando right now.

As for the hosting, I put him on PowWeb, $103.00 for the whole year including name registration.

Troy,

You can go with a free service, either the space that your ISP gives you with your account, or something like geocities, tripod, angelfire, etc..

That way the hosting is free.. then you register your domain name and can have it pointed at that freebie site.

Troy,

I've used several different "pay for space" hosts and they've all managed to dissapoint me at one time or another. Dead site, dead email... whatever.

Mike's idea of just pointing to a freebie sounds like a good idea for a club like yours. Later if you need to move the site to another host because it gets too big or doesn't perform to your expectations you only have to change the pointer - the domain stays the same!

Oh yeah, I used to race model boats when I lived in Minnesota. I belonged to the Twin Cities Model Boat Club for about seven years.

I raced 21 inboard vee, 21 inboard hydro and 45 outboard tunnel hull.

By the time I moved to Florida all my equipment was about worn out and I didn't want to replace it. ($$$)

My dad has a ton of gear he would like to sell if you know anyone who may be interested.

be careful about the freebie sites! I signed up with a reputable one, 6-8 months later they changed there ad strategy and now you can't budge without being overrun with annoying pop-up ads. I have left one version of my site still there but once the revised site is ready we will host it ourself.

Seems like the prices i have seen range from $7/mo. to $80/mo. (Our hosting fee is $9.95/mo.)

We rent space on a virtual server. We use part of it for our stuff, and then resell or sub-rent the rest of it to our customers for a nominal hosting fee that more that pays for itself.

If you don't want to mess with it yourself, we would be more than happy to provide hosting for you, as well as register your name and have it directed to the link.

I use Homestead. It's $69 a year I think, and I have my own domain name that points to the site. They even have their own web design software that you can download. Pretty simple to use and no ads or pop-ups.

Troy, this is the host I use. I have my site with them, and two more that I designed. Very reasonable rates, and really nice guy to work with. Heres his site.
