I am trying to start this little sign business, already have some orders, and a system set up. But my first job involves window lettering with an outline. I'm not sure how to make the outline letter that will plot as a full larger letter that will fit on the window under the colored letter and appear to those walking by as an outline around the colored letter. Wow, that sounds like a cryptic thought! I know what I mean, but I can only hope you do too. THANK YOU for any help you can offer! I am working with CorelDRAW 11, Cocut Pro and a Roland PNC1000 plotter.

In Version 10, all you need to do is goto the "effects" menu and select "contour". Do an outside contour then you can goto the "arrange" menu and "break apart" the contour from the original letters. Once they are broken apart, you'll be able to select or move just the outline or the original letters.

Another way is to put your outline on the letter at the thickness you want. then with the text selected, hold down the ctrl and shift key at the same time and hit the letter Q key.
This will created another plot outline for you. Im just not sure if this will work in ver. 11.
Give it a try

I know nothing of Corel 11, but in earlier versions, contouring leaves many nodes on the outline. If so, use the auto-reduction button to reduce their number. Otherwise CoCut might not keep the size (dimensions) that you need. Always make a note of the dimensions before exporting to CoCut just in case that happens. You can always resize in CoCut if needed.

Jennifer...Corel 11 does the contour as Bruce describes. It also leaves lots of nodes as Bill mentions. CTRL/SHIFT/Q will do the job as well (yes it still works in ver11 Bob).
With your setup Jennifer, if co-cut doesn't like all the nodes in a contour with Corel I would be cutting direct from Corel without using co-cut. That way the excess nodes won't be a problem. I used to have a PNC 1000 and cut direct all the time...except when the length of the cut was beyond 62.5". THEN I reverted to a bridge program like co-cut to panel the cut.
If you need more info on cutting direct just e-mail me.

Just to add my two cents: I prefer not to use the contour tool and instead give the letter an outline, then under Arrange, click Convert Outline to Object. Click Break Apart and remove the inner line of the letter, that's it. I cut directly from Corel 10, hope it will work for you.
