I'm interested in learning about expanded polystyrene foam sign making and finishing (dryvitt). There maybe some articles in a trade magazine or book web site or something. There is a moisure retension issue that has come up in the building of homes with this materials , so I am thinking that attaching this to some sheet goods may pesent some promblems?

YES! There is a problem with that stuff! It lets in moisture, but doesn't let it back out! My daughter just spent $16K on her house, removing it and replacing rotted studs and window frames, because of it!
If you use it, be sure that EVERYTHING is water resistant IN YOUR SIGN!

The problems encountered with the foam relates to poor sealing and flashing around windows and doors and such... the water generally seeping in there and becoming trapped behind the foam. Interior moisture from inside the house is part of the problem too in my opionion.
The solution is to flash and seal properly as well as space the foam off the substrate to allow the water to drain down and out the bottom.
Large monument signs would be done over a concrete block wall and no moisture problems should be possible.
Properly designed signage shouldn't do this in any way I can think of.
I am looking seriously at purchasing a three axis computerized hot wire cutting system. I would build signs and sculptures totally out of foam with metal structure sealed inside as necessary.
By designing the way the foam goes together and by orienting the seams to seal the project against weather I don't anticipate any problems.
I have one very large project done this way that is over 10 years old and looking like the day ot was built.
