I may be predjuduce(sp?) but I think that Robby Gordon's car is UUUUUUUUUUUgly!!!!

Maybe not, I don't really like Jeff Gordon either, but I do sorta agree with Amy, it is a cool looking car, not the #1, but cool. Of course I like any car with flames....

My favorite car is not in NASCAR, but the NHRA and is John Force's Gold "7 time Champion" Car.
Merry Christmas

It's obvious legibilty isn't a factor in the judging. The 18 might as well leave the numbers off the car. It amazes me how some of these high dollar teams can come up with such poorly designed cars. Has anyone noticed how much better on a whole the Bush series cars look?

CJ's right, most all cars are covered in decals. they paint one or two colors, then add the "magic sticky". most of the designs are by a handful of designers who keep to the same styles and formulas they think work. we've done plenty of NASCAR in the past and some work is lots (and lots) of hassle. it is good clients to have for "bragging rights", but some of the main reasons for companies to spend the big money (tens of millions for major sponsorship on top teams) is to keep an identity on the track. that doesn't always make for legible (or pretty) racecars.

the Tide car is best use of what you want on racecar. good color scheme, clear logo, a style that stands out from the rest of the others (to keep up with the driver in a pack). even Tide had a few paint schemes that looked bad this year (special brands, etc.). i'd agree the Busch cars have some better schemes. my pick is the old NHRA Scotty Cannon - Oakley funnycars for extreme graphics and wild flames. i like J.Gordon's car since they just don't do many flames like the old style anymore.

My shop is less than a half mile as the crow flies from the Gainesville raceway, which is where the NHRA has the Gatornationals every year in March. Although I have done extensive work for the track, I've had little luck breaking into doing a few racecars myself.

I do get to take a long look at all the graphics though, and let me say that it is quite a showcase. Over the years I've watched as the paint jobs have slowly given way to vinyl and printed graphics, and this year I was hard pressed to find any paint out there, but there are a few, especially on the alcohol cars on down into the door bangers.

It's quite a show for a signperson who may have never gone, so if anyone gets a chance to go to an NHRA event, grab a camera and knock yourself out....I think you'll really like what you see!!
And the trailers they haul them in are mind blowing...from the large scale graphics on the outside , to the chrome everything and hardwood floors, workshops, and crew areas they have inside those things. Unbelievable!! [Roll Eyes]

The old #24 paint from two years ago was good. There is not a single set of decent flames on the track. Spencer's old Cammel Car (yellow, green, purple showed up BIGTIME! But then I favored the MAN IN BLACK trimed in silver and a touch of red.

Unfortunately, the paint schemes have become what identifies with the sponsor on TV, and what the fans can pick out from 1/2 mile away at the large tracks.

As for my personel choices, the Tide car has always been easy to find, since I first saw it in the 80's.

If those are the best paint jobs ASSCAR has to offer, I'd hate to see the worst.

Those paint jobs suck big time and it doesnt matter if they're done with paint or vinyl, they'd suck just as well either way!

I do alot of work at Rockingham Dragway and a couple of the nascar tracks and I have to agree with Jeff and Troy,...the round track folks ain't got nothing on the straight track people,...If you've never been to an Ihra or Nhra event,as a sign person you are missing alot of eye candy. At a national event the paint jobs on some of the cars is outstanding and wild as wild can get.
