Hiya People, I'm trying to give new life to a Graphtec Cutting Pro PC 2100-50. When I started here, I was told that it's dead but no one knew what happened or what was wrong with it. When I turn it on I keep getting the error message "position alarm power off then on" and it's making a very annoying cherp. I've powered this thing down a few times with no changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Havin' fun, Checkers

Hey Checkers, The first thing that I would do is give it a good cleaning. It sounds as though a sensor may have some dirt in it. Get some clean compressed air or a can of air from the office supply and blow out any dust you can see around the tool head. There is an optical sensor down there that reads where the pinch wheels are (basing this on knowledge of newer models, but it probably holds true for your's as well.) I would also remove the covers and blow any dust out of there while I was at it. A plotter this old could probably use a good cleaning, but Graphtec makes a good plotter and I've seen many as old as yours that are still spitting out vinyl all day long.
Good Luck,
Joe

Hi, Checkers... Joe beat me to the punch...again. He's right on, though! Position errors, X or Y are bad news...usually means something wants to move and can't. If the trouble persists, call 800 854 8385, ask for Danny..X1125, he can field strip a 2100 behind his back. But alas, I don't think you're going to like the outcome. hk

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I starded tearing it down and, as usual, something else came up ( darn clients ). I'll be trying it again tomorrow, starting with a good cleaning. It's covered in dust, but it appears that everything does move freely. Wish me luck!
Cheers, Checkers
