Recently I posted a request for space saving ideas for our new shop...the responses were much appreciated but were also very few.
I'm really serious about this...so if you can think of anything at all please post it...and if you have a picture of the item please post it.
I am currently designing cabinet space for the shop...I want to cover two walls with cabinets for storage and cabinet top work space... thats over 40 running feet of cabinet storage.I've already priced pre-constructed cabinets (kitchen variety) at Lowes and it appears I can do it for around 1,200 bucks...they are all modular some with drawers...some with doors.
I am also considering a "Trundle" table that can be extended from 8 or 10 feet to 16 or 20 feet...if anyone has such an animal let me know I'd like details on construction...I'm thinking steel strucure.

I have 2 tables in my shop. The 1st one I built is just 4'x8' using 2x4s for the frame. It has lots of storage space on shelves I put under it and sits on 4 heavy lockable casters. The other one started life as an old double pedastal oak teachers desk. A friend got it at an auction for $17 but found it was too big.(top is 44"x78"x1.5") I built a base for it with casters to bring it to the same height as the other table. I can roll it out of the way or butt it against the other one for bigger projects. I find the desk drawers great for organizing smaller items and keeping them dust free.
Future plans include a 4'x5' table with aprox. 3' hinged extensions on the sides that can be rolled up to the other tables. The extension could then swing up to meet the end of the other table and locked into place, effectively creating one long table.

Putting everything on rollers has gotta be space saving because it enables you to adapt your shop to different situations, making it much more efficient. Also I like tables with several drawers under the top, some could be big enough for pawer saws...It's handy to have the tools located close to where they'll be used. The drawers also keep the dust out.

I have always liked the idea of lazy Susan's since my dad built one in our kitchen when I was a kid. I think they are great, maybe not as much space savers, but can rotate the vinyl or paints, patterns or a variety of things needed at different times. They could be open, closed, partitioned, and for that fact, made from lucite or clear to show what comes around; bringing to mind a vertical one on the wall, like the Wheel of Fortune or a ferris wheel. Vertically, horizontally, or spherical, clear or multi-color coded, wood, metal, or whatever, you could store your items from shop to office, large or small, without climbing on a ladder or reaching behind. What do you think? another thought just crossed my mind: one that would suspend from the ceiling that would lend the shop more wall and floor space, but to be placed in an area that is not interfering with useful other space. And, if this could be something to be able to be detached and easily be used in another area, that would be a plus too, kind of on the order of your idea with everything on wheels. Now, I think the wheel idea is smart too!

Thanks gang...I'm keeping all these suggestions and looking for even more.
One of my other space savers is a "Vinyl tree"on casters I made several years back. It rotates like a "lazy suzan" carries 40 rolls of vinyl and can be placed anywhere. It's made of steel square tube and 5/16" steel rod, stands about 7'tall and only occupies 24" square.
Keep sending the ideas...as I use some of them I'll post some pics.
Thanx again ...
