quote:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Love to restore old or damaged photo's. Have had the pleasure of bringing numerous old Civil War pic's back to life. Have done many pictures gratis for the local historical societies. I get into it and the hours just fly by.
Every body around here knows I love to restore old photo's so I get plenty of material for my hobby. Once started on a fire damaged wedding pic at about 8 o'clock on a saturday. Only picture the gent had of his mom and dad that survived the fire. Had a couple of cups of coffee, and just kept at it. Started to get hungry and decided I had better have some lunch and discovered it was 9 PM...The restoration came out terrific. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you give someone a restored picture of their Mom, Dad, son, daughter etc. and see tears well up in their eyes. You know you did something really nice for someone, and it only cost you a little time..

Thank God for PS 7 and the new healing brush! Years of practice on the regular rubber stamp and Adobe brings it all to ease with that thing! We get $125 hour for retouching, plus scan and prints... Average 8x10 will run $150, tinted, because B/W is almost impossible on a Roland HiFi!

I believe Graphics Unleashed (www.unleash.com) has a page about this. A fellow named Michael Cervantes is terrific with bitmaps, so you may want to browse him.

Bob, Two sites you may find useful: www.myjanee.com (click on Photoshop resources, great tutorials and links)
www.retouchpro.com (a little clunky to get through, but loaded with retouch challenges and submissions. read the how i did it parts of the submissions.fantastic info there.
I get $100 hour for all corporate/business work not done at Gemini Signs.
Gemini Signs charges $60 hr for any photo fondling I do there.
Work for the public is done at a gentler fee. These are usually jobs that have a great sentimental or emotional reason.
Lots of Mom or Dad just passed away, family history, or sometimes "I just got divorced and I want him/her out of that picture NOW!" Common sense and a little conversation will usually come up with a fee that is fair to both the client and myself.
This part of my life is a hobby, that occaisionally pays for my computer toys/software.
Easy work I usually give to a friend who suppliments his Social Security with light photo restoration.
I want the really tough work. This usually comes from Historical Societies. Some paid, some gratis, all challengeing and satifying.

I had some good fun fixing up some of my wedding photos. Had some pics with closed eyes, or funny faces. I moved eyes from a different photo of the same person, & replaced the whole head on one pic. Also fixed a shirt tail that was blowing up in the wind on myself that took away somewhat from the formality of the occassion.
I had a shot of my daughter catching air on a wake board that I placed into a shot of me snowboarding below a cornice. Had her launching a huge air overhead. Making a copy of her profile, flipping both the x & y axis, filling it grey & feathering the edges creates a shadow so real, most people would never notice.
