On my older computer now. I just bought Norton systemworks 2003, & put it on my 3 newer machines, but I'm on my ols pentium 233 & I try to install it & it says I have to remove older version. I did that restarted, & tried again. 3 times yesterday, & about 5 times just now (banging my head against the wall here )
I've removed stuff through add/remove programs in control panel, also looked for stray symantec items in windows explorer, & even used an un-install utility provideed on the new Norton 2003 CD, but although every shred of Norton debris is gone now, & I restarted again, I go through the 5 steps before Norton decides if it's willing to work yet, & I get the same damn sh!t. "norton has detected older version, installation will not continue, remove older version, & try again"
Sometimes uninstallers don't get everything. There may be some reference elsewhere like an .ini file or even in the registry. But be careful when editing the registry because it controls the vital windows' operations. And changing things there usually can't be reversed.

Norton is just plain more trouble than it's worth. That's why I just switched to the free AVG at www.grisoft.com It does it's job and doesn't argue.

Click the Registry Tool > Tools (on menu bar) >Registry Cleaner, let it scan your registry for orphan entries and maybe some legacy Norton entries will show up which you can remove.
Just use with care and don't blame me

That reminds me Doug. You didn't mention which windows operating system is on the computer which wont work right. I know that the 2002 version of Norton wont run on w95. Could that be the problem?
