Saturday I'm flying outta here to attend my daughters graduation from St. Edwards University in Austin with a degree in Photography & Digital Media.
I will stop over in the suburbs of Chicago for 2-1/2 days to visit my mom & sister. I have tentative plans to meet 2 letterheads during that time.
I also had the chance to meet Rich Stebbing on a recent trip he made out here to Maui, & I got to show off my shop a little.
It would be fun to visit another shop during my 5 days in Austin. I will of course have some festivities to keep me busy as this is my first trip out there since Tiva's high school graduation & she will be showing me around, but I'm not expecting to tag along with every moment of her busy celebrating young-adult life, so on those afternoons off (or mornings while she's still sleeping off her yesterday) I will be checking out the town myself.
Any Austin sign people out there reading this? Let me know if you want a brief visitor. Or those with referrals of good Austin contacts of any kind I'd be happy to hear any recommendations. Thanks

Doug, I'm 70 miles north of Austin right on I-35 (in Temple). Give me a call if you care to drive up for a visit. 254-778-7599. I'll even dig into the piggy bank and buy lunch (even though we call it dinner) or dinner (even though we call it supper).

Great Raymond, I will call for sure. It would be great to meet you, see your shop, & check out signs like that awesome carved one on the portfolio this week!
If the wild hair gets too far...you are welcome to drive up the road a bit more...I am 3 hours from temple...or 2.2 hours...if you drive like the rest down here!..

Thanks Robert, ya never know. I used to love road trips living on the mainland. Around here no-one drives 3 hours unless they are spending the night there. Last time I was in Austin, my brother was an intern in Houstan & I was there for my daughters high school graduation. I drove Houstan-Austin roundtrip twice in 24 hours. Got caught going about 20 over the limit at about 4 am. The guy let me off with a warning. Nice place.

I remember hearing about Texas being the first, or only State that had speeding coupons. You could buy them with your vehicle registration for the year, keep them in your car, & use 'em like monoply get-out-of-jail-free cards! I think they were only good for freeway speeding & not over 15 or 20 MPH above the limit. I don't know if it was just abill going up for vote, or an actual law, but I always thought that was pretty cool!

YOU GUYS ARE TOO FUNNY Kinda reminds me of some trips in my younger days flying to Santa Fe to pick up my daughter, taking the train to Oregon to return to where she was born, driving round trip to northern Cal. to see friends, the flying to Chicago to visit the folks, then taking the train back to Santa Fe to return Tiva to her mother before flying back to Hawaii. Once I added all the miles of my journey & divided into the time spent travelling. I averaged a non-stop 55 miles an hour for about a week. Not what I'd call a vacation these days, but I loved it back then.
