A friend came into my shop a couple of months ago with a yard sign that was originally painted in oil based paints that she tried to save from deteriorating by putting an acrylic varnish over it. The varnish yellowed and peeled badly. I told her it would be cheaper and more logical to replace the sign than try and restore it. She was pretty upset because of the sentimental value due to who had made it for her. Sooo, being the idiotic softy I am I agreed to try to do something with it. Every so often I try to scrape a little more of the varnish off without destroying the original sign, but its starting to wear on me. Is there anthing that will dissolve the varnish without destroying the sign???
