We all use them, have been since the days of the caveman and cavewoman (had to put that in there!)
Would anyone be interested in posting their beloved or maybe the one that is most versatile to them? I realized yesterday how much of my day evolves around the use of them and deciding which one to use, clean, stack, seal, whatever! Made 1D,2D, 3D, etc.; they are microscopic to galactic proportions, from silk to steel! (one of my favorite is ziploc for stray change or tackle box for brushes) WHICH ARE YOUR FAVORITES OR MOST USEFUL AND WHAT DO YOU PUT INTO OR UNDER THEM?

My favorite, most-useful container is that 16 oz. mug I keep in the freezer that I occassionally fill with dark beer! Works best on hot days, cold days, sunny days, rainy days, good days and bad days!.......VERY UTILITARIAN!!!!!

I use a shot glass for fresh mineral spirits, then dump it into a pickle jar which I use for first washes. The little tins that Altoids breath mints come in are great for used blades or small items stored in your kit or toolbox.

JUICY JUICE cans......cut the tops out, asave em for nut and bolt storage, mostly for cleanin brushes....works good layin on their side,at an angle so you can lay a brush in it....and not have the brush hairs hit bottom.
how i get these is i buy the kiwi strawberry, and mix it 50/50 with pink grapefruit juice.....much better then the ocean spray strawberry/grapefruit cocktail which is more sugar then juice.

one gallon milk jugs.. I cut the top half off leaving the handle in tact and use them for mixing fiberglass and other resins. The nice thing is once the leftover resin cures in the jug, you can flex the walls and the resin pops loose, making the jug re-usable.

I also use a lot of the 32 ounce non-waxed paper cups.. again for mixing resins and gel coat.

Empty plastic saline solution bottles. I store oil in these containers and keep it in my tool box. Easy to get just a few drops to oil my brushes. Kathy did you find the one I left there?

I'm a container nut too...my most recent favorite is the little container that listerine uses to hold those little "melt in your mouth strips" of mouth wash (breath freshners) it hold exactly 6 x-acto blades so safely you can throw it in with your pocket change and it will not open til you want it to...I also use those plastic oval shaped change purse (they hold about 50 x-actos ) and you can carry it in your pocket safely as well.

I save all my cats food cans for small amounts of paint , because they stack so nicely you don't need lids just add another can. Sometimes I eend up with a half dozen cans of paint stacked and all are usable for long periods.

But my favorite was a friend of mine that always had baby food jars...I mentioned one day I didn't know he and his wife had another baby...he said "I don't I just keep feeding my kid baby food" (mostly apple sauce) The kid was 6 at the time...I often wonder if he still feeds his kid baby food he's about 40 now and last I saw of him it had no ill effect (he's about 6'4" and 280.)OH and the old man still has baby food jars. Hmmmmm!

When I first was learning gold I read the leBlanc book on gold, and in there he shows how to make a little paper cup out of an envelope, that actually holds paint without leaking. You hold it in the same hand as your mahlstick, and it has a little tab you can use to palatte the brush on. I use them alot, and people are always amazed at how easy they are to make. Those little cups are my number one favorite container of all time, the number two being my trusty plastic mustard bottle that I use for spirits.... 'have had the same one for over 15 years now ! Yeah Jeff, those little boxes!!!!
The first thing our sign class instructor taught us...."you need something to put your paint in...." I've been folding them for 39 years. At a cafe, fold one and put the tip into it.

Next best...Pacific Evaporated Mild tins, about 3" tall and 2" dia. Perfect.

I keep all reusable and still reusable containers....

My favorites are: Mustard squeeze cans for thinners, Mineral spirit and alcool.
water gallons, cut to half to wash the brushes and small rollers. And Dixie cups for paint or mixing small amount of it for the airbrush...

And Guys! how about an How-to fold an envelope to make a paint container, I'm curious about it....

Hi every one, my name is Troy and I have a container problem
[Cool] [Cool]
Coffee Cans- All sizes, got most of my friends and family saving them for me.

Butter Tubs- work great from thinner and other chemicals that you may need to put a lid on.

Film Canisters- I keep several in my boxes for new and used x-acto blades, pearl powders. Use them in my R/C boat tool boxes for small parts, screws, etc.

Medecine Bottles- I have about 30 small ones (about 3oz.) that the Dr. gave my wife some stomach medecine samples in, They have screw on lids and work great for small parts.

Anyone eat those "Diet" meals that come in the microwavable trays that are about a 1/2" deep, work great for laying a brush in some thinner while your painting. No cover, but it does the job. Also keep empty washed out can good cans around for mixing epoxy and such in.'

Love Containers!!!!

my favorite container.....are those cheap poly plastic picnic plates, they got 3 divions, one is almost 1/2 and the other 2 are 1/4's. ive got some that are 10 years old. i use em to paint outa. 1/4 i put paint, other 1/4 i put turps and i pallette the brush in the big side....neat thing is, no clean up. you let em dry up and use again and again. then when you got 8-10 coats of paint on the plate, you take a screwdriver, dig into the paint...and wala it all peels off and you got a clean plate.

Big fan of the baby food jars here.
Great for storing small stuff like washers, screws, etc.
Screw the lids to the bottom of a shelf and hang the jars under.

Can see my mixed paint inventory at a glance. (the small mixes obviously)... dont hang those

With three 5 month old nieces my supply is about to be replenished [Smile]

One of my least favorite containers is probably the most useful and economical.A good used five gal paint can! I can stand on a good one and I'm seven feet tall! Besides it will hold any number of tools,...especially with one of those apron type organizers. A good clean 5 will carry several vinyl installations for large jobs and or smaller paint containers for work on location. They are designed to stack if you have the proper lid so hauling and storage usually isn't a problem. Stuff won't fall out and or leak from them if in good condition. They are also great for ladder work with a hook.
