First of all, I really want to thank everyone who gave me input on my last question a couple of days ago. After reading your responses and several articles I am restating my question...see what you think.

I can see that many people have had great success with using the CorelDRAW/Roland combination. There are differences of opinion, however, about whether to just load the driver off the Roland website or use CoCut as the interface.

Since I am a beginner and need to get things up and running soon, do you think the CoCut approach would be more straight-forward?

If so, do you know the cheapest place to get the CorelDRAW 11 + CoCut Combo?

Thank you again for your assistance!

Jennifer,

I never tried cocut. But I did work directly from Corel9 using the roland driver on my pnc1100 and I can tell you that works fine!(once you get use to the preview print interface)but there's a reserve for tiling big jobs (never worked fine for me, I had to tile it manually).

Considering the investment, you could buy an older version of Corel (8 or 9) on e-bay, get used to it, and, just like me save your money to buy a state of the art CAS software (I grabbed GA 6, used, for 500$)and still complete using your corel for design purpose!

Well, GA is not really the state of the art but I have a lot of fun using it, And I make a good living using it!

Best of luck and welcome in the trade!

cutting direct from corel...is the simplest way to go....as for XP i cant say, i wont own it yet.
i still use win 98SE and cut from COREL 7....8 and above are just way more program then i need to cut vinyl. i have 2 rolands a pnc-1000 in the mobile shop and a pnc-1100 at the house. both work directly from corle no bridge program.

The Roland drivers for Windows 2000/XP do not work with 2000 but they work just fine with XP. I'm with Joe on the direct cutting, but I am sure that you would like Co Cut just as well. I just happen to like to keep things simple and cutting direct is the simplest method I know of. [Smile]
