I am still having trouble with Fireworks. I have read my manuals and "Training from the Source" books published by Macromedia and I still can't figure it out. I'm starting to think the program is corrupted or something.

I can take any of the files in the training book that are already created and export them or preview them and they work fine. I can do the same with my old .png file from my current website. But anything new just won't work.

Check these examples out.....

This is a sample I made to show the original:

 -

This is what happens in a preview (all the images except for the buttons (slices) disappear:

 -

Does this make sense to anyone??? It doesn't do that with my old files or files from the training manual that are made in the exact same manner. Is there a place to reset the program to the default setup? I've looked and I can't find anything.

Thanks!

Hi Amy,

Even though it is not complete could you post the page online somewhere on your site? It may help to take a look at the HTML.

Also, somewhere under the export settings is there an output settings. Is it possible the images are being saved into an images older within the images folder and the path is corrupt.

One more idea, are your paths set to local? For example -- /images/button.gif vs. C:/AmySite/images/button.gif. This may alter things if folders were moved or if any of the files are being "served" or online.

Hi Alan,

This is within Fireworks preview itself before anything has been saved. I can export it and put it on my site but I don't think that will resolve my Fireworks problems. It's obviously messing up somewhere. The code will reflect that screw up. I just can't find out where!!

Looks like I'm going to reinstall!

I don't use fireworks or hardly any macromedia stuff because of the difficulty. HTML is much easier for me..

Educate me.. Why would u build a rollover buttons into a table?

However,

Look into the (assets/images dotn know what fireworks calls it) folder that has your images and see if they are published there. If not then they didn't get published.
is there a 'bring to front?
is there a 'show graphics?
Are u opening/looking at the correct layer?
it looks like u opened the invisible layer and not the roll over graphic.. When u save did it save all the rollover images? i would guess it didn't.

If the proggy works with older stuff and the tutorials then there is usually a prob with the new file itself..
Reinstall is hardly ever the answer unless you completly remove the proggy. A reinstall overwrites the .exe files and almost never over rights the settings in the registry or the default .dll's

Hi Curtis,

I did uninstall and reinstall and still no improvement. I've use this program a ton and never had a problem with it. It's a whole lot easier than typing in code (been there, done that, not going back).

All I am trying to do is make a template and it just won't work.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but I really need to find someone who uses this regularly and not other ideas or workarounds. I know a couple people I could call but of course my phone is hosed as well. Only getting incoming calls, can't make outgoing calls!! When it rains it pours.

Thanks for your replies though.

In the mean time if you want to e-mail the batch of files with the png included I can take a look over the next night or so to see if we can get to the bottom of this. I

I agree with Curtis about the prefence type files not being over written. But maybe something is hindering the code. I would be sure to back up any extras or plugins associated with FW before reinstalling though.

Amy,

I was able to basically duplicate your problem in Fireworks. Maybe you already thought of this but...

When I previewed a file and selected "frame 2" I got just the rollovers with nothing else.

In other words, when previewing make sure you have "frame 1" selected.

Dave
