I'm looking for assistance in setting up a system that will work with a Camm-1 plotter. Let me explain. My brother was in the sign business for 30 years but is leaving it behind to pursue other things. I'm at a place in my life where I'm interested in taking on something new, and have an interest in the sign business. He has offered me his plotter and a supportive attitude, but, since he's been mostly out of the business the past few years, he is uncertain which driver and software I could get now that will work well with the Roland Camm-1. I will be hooking it up to a computer that runs Windows XP, and probably also running Illustrator 10 and Photoshop 6.
If you have any knowledge you can share with me, I would be very grateful!

Hi Jennifer, Corel Draw works good with my cutting camm 1 I use winplot which i don't believe is out anymore but It was made by Airmark and I believe is now called cocut....Check at airmark and see.For me the simple cut program I use works good for me.You can get one of the high dollar programs that might work but I like working in Corel and Cutting straight from my design program...Just what works for me........T http://www.airmark.com/

Hi Jennifer, I do believe you can get the driver from the roland site. Your brother should have had one with the cutter itself, but may have lost it.If you are not deep into illustrator you might consider Corel for a cutting program though. I haven't heard that anyone has got a Roland to cut directly from illustrator. A Roland will cut directly from Corel by using the smallest outline on objects and then asking it to print. You can get plenty of help here on the board for that, but might also get info on a crossover program for illustrator. Most of them are fairly expensive though. You can find OEM Corel 9 and 10 on Ebay for under 100.00
Cutting direct from Adobe Illustrator 8
(copy and paste this line in the search engine at the top and it should bring up good info on what you are asking about. Personally the Corel/Roland matchup is a blessing to the pocketbook and works well. You could also work in Illustrator and copy to Corel to cut from, but you will need to save your work in Illustrator in an earlier format for Corel 9 or 10 to read. It will not read Illustrator 11.... Good luck

As far as the drivers go, you can find them on Roland's website.. http://www.rolanddga.com They may or may not work with WinXP, I don't know for sure.
As far as Illustrator goes, yes you can cut directly from it. I do it all the time with the Windows driver for my ColorCAMM PNC-5000 (no I don't print anything anymore, strictly use it as a cutter). Set the pen width to .003" or .001" and NO fill, and you should be good to go. If you give the objects a fill color it will cut it twice depending on the way your driver is setup.

I have a camm1 and laptop with XP home edition on it. Any driver for windows 2000 will work with XP fine. There should be one available on the Roland web site. Brian
