This just came to me last week.....when I opened a roll of Vinyl......I am sure someone else has thought of this before........( I saw the one Timi Barrow had made from a paper roll machine) but I couldn't find one of those machines.
So this is the next best solution..

It is very Cheap and it works......set up time ONE MINUTE.....And can be operated by one person....Is fully adjustable......Build with materials on hand......
Stores on a shelf...........

At the last place I worked, we built an island in the middle of the room that was wasted space. Screwed those end caps down to it 3 wide by maybe 8 long and stood all our 48" vinyl up on them. Kept it nicely organized.

Hey, that's a neat idea!

I'm stumped, however, because I've never received any vinyl packed with those? I only order 10 yard rolls at the most...maybe they only come with 50 yd rolls??

Anyone have a set they want to part with? I could use those intead of manually rolling out the roll every time.

If anyone has any they are willing to send, let me know and I'll pay the shipping cost.

I like that applicator, Shep!

I have also taken the small round inserts and fastened them to a 1x6x10 ft board, which I then fastened along the bottom of a wall with shelf brackets. Then I stood up rolls of vinyl just like Terry did. Saves a lot of space!! I think it looks good too...when you look at the wall you see a nice spectrum, which is handy when a customer happens to be standing there, since its easy to just point at various colors.

I will try to take pix tommorrow and email you. It's real simple though. Picture a long shelf with shelf brackets. Now picture it 12" off the floor, with small round circular inserts spaced evenly along the top. These are glued to the board. You simply stand the rolls of vinyl up by slipping them over the inserts. This gives you a low shelf with the vinyl lined up flat against the wall, out of the way, and still allows you to use the rest of the wall for other things. When you see the rolls, you see a big area of color as opposed to the wire racks where all you see are the ends of the rolls.

Two pieces of scrap ply with holes...and a pole...works fine...

I have about twenty of those bolted to each other as a floor rack for vinyl (large square).
This is my "masking machine"
 -
 -
I don't like when the masking comes off the top of the roll ... the bottom bar makes it so the masking comes off only a few inches above the vinyl.
Also if the bottom bar rolls freely the masking pulls easy, if I stop the bar from rolling (a bolt through the bar) it adds a bunch of tension to the pull (keeps masking tight)

This one I use with mainly 30" masking on whatever table is free in the shop and have another more permenant one for 14" on it's own table

How you do it, is pick up the phone, order the Weber tape applicator and cut a whole bunch of vinyl (accumulate a few jobs) while waiting for the applicator to be delivered. Apply application tape on the already cut vinyl and that should pay for a quarter of the cost of the applicator. Three more fair sized jobs will pay for the rest. Some real good ideas on the post derived from the Weber tool, but why re-invent substandard wheels. Whatever works for one is fine with me. But I opted to purchase the applicator while supporting a Letterville merchant and I love it.

soooo...........
You are sayin that there should be no more how to do anythings, and everyone should just pick up their phone and spend money, instead of trying to do things for themselves............just because someone is a merchant here......!!

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....Good concept, I think I'll pass [Smile]

Hi "Heads"

Thanks for all the comments (most positive and some negative)
And thanks for all the files and photos you sent to be included on my "Tips and Tricks Page"

I basicly work alone, and I am constantly looking for and trying out something that will increase my output.......(Thus will increase my PROFIT).The "CHEEP" Aplicator idea seemed an appropriate one at the time..... And I assure you that it was in no way meant to compete with or to offend WeberMade..or anyone for that matter !!!!!!

In life I have learned to do with what you have...and if it offends others.............

SHEESHHHHH.......Who CARES !!!!!!!!
For I seem to be the ONLY one that is paying the bills around here.......

And for those who feel the same way as I do ...keep sending tips and I will keep adding them to my list !!!!!!
