This is a cake display that my wife, Kristy, is putting together for a local grociery store. The locomotive and tender will not be edible, but the cars will be. The whole thing is foam blocks and wood strips.
The foam blocks were turned on a lathe that I built yesterday using a simple 2X4 frame, a drill to turn the stock and a spade bit in the drill for a chuck to hold the stock. I was able to turn all kinds of parts very quickly and had the basic shapes in about 2 hours.
More to follow.............

Nice work Bolt, but I personally, would like to see the drill lathe you worked out, I work in shaped foam all the time and it would be helpful I think! Bill

Heres what she did with the thing after about 3 hours. This is eventualy going to be on a base with a train station etc..., and its all got to be done by Wed. night, so she's gonna be busy this week.
Bill- The lathe I made was simply 1-2X4 for the bed, with 2-2X4's for the sides. The "chuck" for the stock was a spade bit in the drill.
