amy the inks are not outdoor useable. these printer are good if you want to t-shirt tranfers with a heat press. 8.5 x 11 aint big enough to do shirts and most epsons are single color cartridge, which arent cheap but are better if you use more of one color then the others.

I have the 1270 (older version of 1280) and it is great for proof and things of that sort. I also have the Photo 2000P. This printer has pigmented inks which last quite a bit longer than other printers. It is also a bit slower but the quality is awesome. You may be able to print on some sort of coated vinyl then frog juice it but I have never tried it. In my opinion epson is the best desktop inkjet out there.

I just bought one after my Epson 660 went bad. I haven't used it for any of the applications that you described, but for larger presentations and INCREDIBLE photo color it's great! It is a shame that it has a single color cartrige (about $40), the only other printer that I found with the large format and individual inks was one of the HP's. I really liked my E660 and didn't want to change brands just for the inks.
