I like acoustic and bluegrass mostly.. been listening to Rhonda Vincent, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle with the Del McCoury Band, and 111rd Tyme Out lately...I like bands that "cook" a little when they play.

There are other times in the day when I listen to the playlists on one of the country stations, and I can get into rock once in a while, but don't come in playin that ole rap stuff on your boombox, that stuff gets old quick in my book, although my teenage grandkids listen to it alot.

I know I'm getting old now...recently a new radios station opened up and all they play is 1960's and 70's "Stress free" music...you know "Moon River" and "Cryin in the Chapel" stuff.

I'm so tired of Garth Brooks and Toby Keith (both local boys) and the "Wang me Dang me" country stations that exist here I could spit.

Pat and I even had a discussion today about...How is it Elvis Presley is called "King of Rock n' Roll" when in reality he was a balladeer even a crooner he only had 3 or 4 "rock tunes" Blue suade shoes, jail house rock, hound dog, maybe one or two more. The rest was just hype...35 years of it too.

Oh well in between our Irish Celtic music and the new station we're in hog heaven.

Did I mention we bought ourselves a remote control 5 disk C.D. player for the new shop?

Lovin it...we do have some u-2 and Boney James ...I gues we're pretty ecletic after all!

Irish celtic is always a fav with me if it is not too repetitive, some alternative, jazz, blues, and any rock from the mid 60's and early 70's.
specially fond of the British rock stars (Beatles, Eric Clapton, Stones). Also, early 70's, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, Doors, Moody Blues, (hey I'm pretty easy to get along with! add classical to the list, really calms our house down.

i would never wish to impose my musical taste upon anyone.
whatever "rings your bell" musically is great.

most assume because i am from alabama, all i listen to is country on the radio, not so.
(i can't stand mainstream anything! radio bores the hell out of me.)
my listening habits are diverse.

i have love for all music done well.

all genres of music have been influenced by one another, that is what is cool about music in general.

come on, don't be shy, tell us what you are listening too.

the most important thing is to keep on listening.

Hi Mark, always enjoy your posts.
It is almost impossible to get decent music on the radio today. Most stations feature singers that no longer sing, but they are screeming and yelling. Why? Nothing is more relaxing then the way it used to be when you could understand the words and the music was pleasing to your ears.
I guess you have to be young to enjoy to days so called music.

I listen to a band that is only 7 months old- my baby daughter. She gargles/googles/hums constantly. It's hysterical. Sometimes she actually sounds like a bear growling, but it's just her trying out new sounds (the baby thing is new to me, so I get a kick out of all this)!!

On a serious note- Phish, Phish, and Phish. The more I listen to them the more I realize they are unbelievable. I try to play along with my Yamahahaha acoustic and...well, let's just say it's good practice. Like trying to learn to drive a stick in a dragster.

Also SOME Dead, Gov't Mule, Mozart (no joke) to break the pattern so my work colleagues don't lose it. Phish play everything from Rock to Phish- they are one of those bands that are really hard to pigeonhole- each song is it's own style...? I have most of their studio albums, but the real treat is their live stuff. 15-minute jams are de rigeur. I used to be a huge Floyd fan, so they prepared me for these guys.

I should save this post so that the next time I'm looking for something different...Some real intriguing names popped up - my favorite is Dropkick Murphy!!
I also want to listen to more Zep/Hendrix/Kenny Wayne Shepherd/SRV/bluegrass but the $$$ are going toward my little girl. Someday!!

In my Studio I have an "old time" Juke Box complete with 200 selections of 45's.....every thing from Jazz to Bluegrass to Rock and Roll.....I have remote speakers in the Shop area...(The music is everywhere)......

My local Station..(Galax Va )(You see I am only 7 miles from the Va border} plays a lot of Bluegrass and has a Special program of the hits from the past 50 years...that covers a LOT of Styles...........

If I am in the "Creative" mood I even listen to CLASSICAL !!!!!!

Occassionaly my good friend Foley Bowman drops by with his Banjo...and plays me several tunes "Claw Hammer Style' of "Old Time Mountain Music"

And then the "Music" becomes more important than the work !!!!!!!

OH WELLLLLLLLLLLLL..

165 mp3's so far playing thru the PC, all through the showroom and (louder) in the production area.

Christian Alternative
Sunny Day Real Estate
Plumb
Techno (if the words aren't foul)
Moby (ditto on the words)
Tracy Chapman
u2
a couple of Dean Martin songs
A few classical pieces

Country music is banned.

I get tired of the same old style of music and try and switch up a lot.

Ever heard Mrs. Miller singing "These Boots Are Made for Walking"? It's one of my current favorites.

Here is some thing! I buy vinyl still! I prefer it, and you can still get most of the new releases. Music is actually a very bad habit for me, I have a 2 Technics MK1200 turntables, a Sony 100 disc player and a 2 Pioneer CDJ1000s , I can also record analog to digital and then burn to CD. though it can be time consuming to say the least. Interesting posts but is anyone here into alternative, trip hop, neo soul, old school or house? Though for stuff you guys know, I do like old Neil Young, Iggy Pop, Beach Boys, Beatles, T.Rex, so Im not totally wierd.....

OK, I'll admit it, I've turned into a Country boy! Five years ago, I couldn't turn it off fast enough. I think seeing my first Faith Hill video captured me. I'd find myself turning the TV to CMT and waiting for Faith to come on!! While waiting, I'd start to pick up on other songs, then my car radio somehow found a country station and now I'm hooked!

I love the Dixie Chicks, Shania, Faith, George Strait, Alan Jackson.

My wife is embarrased! hahaha
She listens to Alternative.

It's the craziest thing, but I love hearing the banjo. [Big Grin] I've got the nuttiest Grateful Dead medley all in banjo pickin'!! I love it!!

I'm really curious about Allison Kraus. Can anybody recommend a good starter album I could check out?

All depends what I'm doing at the moment. If Im laying leaf, outlining, or other "delicate" stuff, it's classical or jazz. If I'm rippin MDO, or rounding over the edges of PT posts with a router, it's Heart, Aerosmith, or the Beatles. I find I rush my work with the wrong music. he he
Some good old "Prarie Home Companion" at anytime.

PS: Steve Burke, been living across the "pond" from Burlington VT (hometown of Phish)for the last 18 years, and I used to listen to Phish on the local station when they were just starting out. Good Stuff!

Terry, try "Forget About It" or "New Favorite" these are her latest. You will find that she will quickly become your new favorite. She is all over the O' Brother soundtrack. Her band Union Station includes Dan Tyminski, better known as George Clooney's voice on O' Brother. Also in the band is Jerry Douglas the best there is on the dobro. I didn't even know what a dobro was until I went to an AKUS concert, now it's my favorite instrument.

Terry, if you have cable, CMT plays some Allison Kraus/Union Station. They also have a segment of "The Best of Austin City Limits" I've caught this one episode three or four times in the past few weeks of Emmylou Harris from 82 ( lookin dang good I might add [Smile] ) and Allison Kraus and Union Station from 2002.

And is it just me or does the hair on the back of your neck stand up when listening to some of the harmonies of this group?

How'd Mark Fair fit into Porter Wagner's sparklin' get-up?
