I need to make two 16'x24''paper banners by Wednesday and ,so far, all I've been able to find is 24'' freezer paper. I intend to run it through my Ioline 24'' plotter using a Majic marker. Has anyone ever used it. Will the slick side slip between the pinch wheels and grit shaft?
Thanks

Hi Wayne,
I've never tried to run freezer paper through a plotter...it may work. If we were a bit closer I could fix you up with enough bond printer paper to do the job. Your local office supply should have rolled papers in their catalog, you might try them or if you have a Staples, Office Max, ect..

Hope this helps a little.

My sign software has cut-plot and fill-plot as options. It came with a marker to put in the knife holder and cut-plot outlines (just like cutting vinyl) and fill-plot will fill in the image which takes forever on a large image.

works great.

If they want it on paper, they must also want it cheap? Since no one else said it yet...why not paint? I don't hand letter (yet) but even I would consider doing so on this job. Besides at $15 for 300 feet, you could even practice a little, & still afford to screw up.

Some Office Supply Stores have"paper banner kits"
Markers that are 2",4",6"
You supply the paper!
Grocery stores usally get thier floor sweepers who took "ART" in school to do this kind of work.
If all else fails ask one of them as they are not yet Trapped in the Machine
Hope this helps

Talk to your local meat shop (I guess you already did) and ask them if they have UNWAXED WHITE BUTHCHER WRAP PAPER in a 24" size. This is different from the stuff they use to wrap meat... it has no wax lining. Or, find out who the supplier is and order it from them. Or, order it from the supplier THROUGH the meat shop, start using the meat shop as your supplier. This stuff is great for patterns, sketching, keeping kids busy, cheap banners and more. A roll will last you a long time.

Wayne -
I build and fly RC airplanes. One of my many hobbies. I never build directly from the plans. Instead I transfer them to freezer paper. The freezer paper I get has a plastic coating on one side and paper on the other. Paper side will accept sharpie marker so I see no reason why it wouldn't accept Majic brand markers.

Thanks guys,
One of my local sign buddies told me he has some paper but he is out of town right now. If he doesn't come back by tomorrow i may have to use the freezer paper. One of the slaughter houses has some 24''. All the Office Depots and such are over 40 miles away and I don't want to travel that far for a roll of paper. I will order a roll for future jobs.

Thanks for all the great info!!

Wayne, our local sign supply house sells plain old butcher paper, and it goes through the friction feed plotter OK. You might try your supply house if your other option does not work out. Vic G

"All you guys are forgetting the best & most inexpensive place to get paper. Your local newspaper company."

These newspaper companies use a varity of rolled paper. NewsPrint, Colombian, Book Stock...and so on. They usually come in 17", 22" and 34" stock. The price for these rolls of paper are quite cheep, compared to butcher paper, or freezer stock.

The newsprint rolls are too thin to run through your plotter, but the thicker stock, like; Colombian, or book stock are 60 Lb. and travel through your plo0tter just fine.

Book stock, or "Bright White" as called in the biz, is my chioce. Its very white, not like newsprint.

One thing about these papers, they don't like water. They will rip and tear when moist.

Now for the best part: the rolls of paper stock are about $2.00US for hundreds of feet. They(the newspaper company) sell these rolls @ around 20 cents(US) per pound.

Another thing, every small town has a newspaper; as well as those rolls.

"I hope this helps."

Thanks a million guys,
My Mom is going to Dothan "as we speak" and will pick up a roll of the heavy paper, as well as some wide markers for fill-in. Ameriban's is $55 per 500ft roll of 60# stock but even at that it's only $1.76 for each banner. I'm afraid that I wouldn't get it in time. Thanks for the idea Richard, the newspaper office only had the thin newspaper stock but maybe they can order some of the heavier stuff for us later.

Joe, our Winn Dixie closed, opened a new "Winn Dixie Marketplace" across the street from our Super Walmart, and lasted about a year and a half and closed again for good. The Winn Dixie Company had to close a bunch of it's stores and ours was one of them. The building has been vacant for almost three years now. Our "IGA" supermarket closed down too. Now we have Super Walmart, Sav-A-Lot, and Piggly Wiggly.

Where I am, 24" white butcher paper is sold by the Paper Co., where you go to get napkins, party supplies, banquet stuff like paper table covers, etc. Also Knight Paper Co. in Jacksonville has a delivery truck that runs around these parts twice a week. Its been $32.16 for as long as I can remember (which isn't too long sometimes). Usually 1 roll lasts me almost a year, but last year I used 2 and this year so far..4. To me buying butcher paper has become a way of gauging how busy I am!

Thanks everyone,
I didn't know there were so many choices of paper.
My Mom was unable to find any 24'' butcher paper at Sam's or at Office Depot etc. We ended up using freezer paper. Piggly wiggly, Savalot, Nobody, had any butcher paper. I will order some for next time. The freezer paper worked fine though.
Thanks

Wayne,
I am curious what software you are running to make these banners. When I wen tot a sign show, I saw this setup being displayed by Lazer Images in Livonia, MI. After the show we bought the Ioline, the software and some paper from them. I was so dissappointed in the software tha tI sent everything back and got my money back. Now a year later, I just another Ioline off of Ebay and would like to try doing the banners again.

Hi Laura,
I'm using SignWizard and an Ioline 24'' plotter.
I just chucked in a marks-a-lot felt tip marker and plotted the outlines. We colored the letters in by hand. I could have used the "pen fills" function but the marker would have played out way before each banner was done. The two banners were 16' long each. Next time, I want to try a wider marker (with more ink) and use the pen fills function.
