Hi

had a customer come in yesterday, he had a roll of old decals from his dad's business,

These decals are mounted in reverse on paper, they remind me a lot of model decals when I was a kid, but they about 22"x 18"

He wants to apply them to magnetic material to put on his 56 Ford pickup, and I was hoping to find someone who remembers how they where applied.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

[Eek!]

Hi Bob. If I can recall correctly, there were the old varnish type decals that were applied by painting a patch of clear varnish onto the surface to which the decal was to be applied. You had to wait for the varnish to dry and develop a "tack"...much like gold size, and the decal was smoothed onto this tacky surface, which held it in place. The backing sheet was then removed, and a top coat of clear was applied to protect the decal.

There were also water type decals as well, and these were applied just like the model airplane decals, then cleared for protection. You may have to sacrifice one to experimentation, to find out which kind you have. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Why do I get all those on-line offers to sell me Viagara, when the only thing hardening is my arteries ?
