I have had zero problems to date with Dibond. Maybe they were referring to Alumalite panels which have a corrugated innercore that can trap moisture. However I have not had any life problems from either.

We use Dibond a lot! White, Black, Duranodic finish, colors and Butler finish. It's easy to work with, durable and a nice finish. We screen print on it, apply vinyl, bend it, roll it, rout it, saw it and drill it.
More specifically to your question,we used 3mm Black for the background panel for our logo on our new facia sign last year. It faces south and has weathered temperatures from -35 to +35 C with no problems at all. The letters were cut out of two layers of sintra and covered in Avery metallic vinyl.

Also go to http://www.alusuisse-comp.com/ and download the Dibond technical manual.

P.S. They are a Letterville merchant.

Hi Cam,
Butler finish is a brushed aluminum. This dibond finish is for interior use only. We use it for interior architectural signage.

Here's a quote from The Alcan website:
"New Dibond Butler Finish (Brushed Aluminum) Now Available

Alcan Composites USA Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of our newest Dibond material stock keeping unit, Dibond material Butler Finish (brushed aluminum finish). This new composites material finish has polyester clear-coat applied over the brushed aluminum finish. Protective masking will come standard, applied to the brushed aluminum side of sheet.

This product has been sold in Europe for the last year and end-users there have revealed that the product offers significant cost savings, ease of fabrication, and rigidity when compared to other aluminum laminates currently on the market.

Key applications include:

• Interior Signage
• Screenprinting
• Exhibit/Display
• Large for Digital Printing
• Point-of-Purchase Displays
• Store Fixture Applications"

There's not a product on the market any more stable than dibond...put your mind at rest and ask the person that gave you that info where they got their information.

Let us see the finished product!

I am glad to hear good things about Di-bond. I am using it more often now, mainly because of the poor grades of MDO we get.
I have had some really bad experiences with "alumalite" also, the MDO with aluminum face. The wood and the aluminum expand and contract at different rates causing it to pucker and pull right off the wall.
