I haven't ever had a call for a western style font..... until now. I don't really have the time to look through 5000 fonts on my CD's so I was hoping some of you could give me some of your favorite Western style font names so I could check my CD's by name.

My absolute favorite is an ATKINSON font called (I think) OLD WEST. I spent hours digitizing a scan of this font, and have used it probably more than I should!

I must admit that I have over used Boston Truck Style. I also like Esoteric New Western because it has a thin serif and is a little different from the normal westerns.

For $10, it's well worth it. I downloaded the fonts when I needed a western font and didn't like what I had. I have only used a couple so far, but the ones I've used are cuttable.

Is it OK to like our own product? Here is a sign we made using Jack Wills' Knolo font. We also used some Sign DNA and credit is given in the pic. Pic is from our website which is fouled up beyond all recognition (FUBAR to you oldtimers)at the moment. Vic G

Thank you all for responding so quickly. I have Boston Truckstyle and like it alot. I also fear using it too much, in fact I use it in my own logo. It was the first font I tried but just didn't look right. But thanks again to all of you. I have a nice list to start looking thru my CD's with and I checked out messa.com and will show the customer those as well.

Thanks for the compliments Randy, Steve and Dave. We have done quite a few farm and ranch signs and usually go with "western" or "19th century" style fonts. But, I used a font called "Jurassic" on the sign for my Dad's ranch. I'll try to post a pic some time.
I just did a window for a company which sells caskets,"Cloud Nine Caskets", in an historic district. On that one I used "Gold Rush" for the font and wanted to include a pictorial of an old fashioned wooden "pine box" floating on a cloud but the client wanted a modern-looking one (got to float it on the cloud though) . I get into using antique styled stuff and have Mike Jackson's CD's on my wish list.
Post a pic of your sign, Dave.

Dave and the rest, We live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. For quite a few years, the Chamber of Commerce used "The Last and the Best of the Old West" as a catch slogan. We pushed that concept for all the nine years we owned the shop, and during that time we kept an eye out for "western" fonts--not to mention turn-of-the-century fonts in general. I created a page on my original site called "Font Find" where I showed some of the fonts available, mainly from mainstream vendors. If you go to this page, there is a list of vendors, plus quite a few of them have a linked page that says "View a selection of old time fonts".
I don't personally sell the fonts, but use the page to help people find fonts that compliment our ornaments and panels. Maybe it will help people needing them now.
Here's an example of what you will find... This one is from Adobe
