What do you need in your county or state? I checked with Arizona and you get a licence there and it covers the whole state.
I Florida you have to get each county licence to work in that county. I've heard others say you do not even need a licence to do signwork in the area. I liked the idea of the state licence the best.

In NY state, the licensing varies from town to town. No license is needed state wide. Some cites/towns require them to do installs. My town doesn't require any. The next town up, Saratoga Springs, requires a license.(I think it costs about $400 and you have to prove you have $1M liability insurance coverage.) In some towns, for a booth in a trade show you have to show proof of at least $500K liability insurance.

I hold a Lee County Contractors license, but have to have a seperate license to do work in the cities of Sanibel/Captive, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and now possibly Fort Myers Beach. All of which are in Lee County!
It's a money thing IMO...

Op, do you mean a sign contractors licence?
I called a bunch of shops up one day and found out many in my area don't have sign contractors licence. Meaning they can't pull a permit. There are other liceneces that cover signmaking without pulling permits. Some shops only do truck and boat lettering or some print shop also do signs and banners.
I just wish it was a "state licence" so you don't have to go to every county and town you do work in and get a separate licence.
Stupidity at it's finest.

In Michigan you only need a license for installing electric signs. To get the license, you have to apprentice for 2 years under a licensed installer before you can take the test.

the letter said "building contractor", and i think it was manily because of all the underground stuff they have in sarasota. cant dig a hole without hitting something. here in pecola you need to have a county business lisence, if your want to work in the city, you need one from them, and then the city has a historical district, and if you do anything in that, you need their approval.
