Rich, This question will stir up a lot of opinions, and that is all I can give you. I have a Roland 24 inch Camm 1, It has certainly delivered for me. The thing I most like about it is its ability to interface with Corel as a cutting software, which should save you a real fortune. Most good software packs are higher than the cutters. There are a lot of people here on the board that can help you get started with that method, which is fairly simple. The cost for the machine is about 2200.00. Good luck with your decision. Jack

Welcome to Letterville and the sign biz! Looks like we have a new neighbor, I'm just across the lake from you in Ponchatoula. If I can be of any help to you, feel free to call.
I use the Anagraph AE75 and haven't had a minutes trouble with it. If you have no experience with sign software or professional graphics programs their Design Art is the way to go. Soooooo easy and you can upgrade later. But beware of customer support from them it is almost non existant. You may want to check out our Letterville merchants, they will be willing to help you make a wise decision.

Roland seems to be really popular here...I might have to look into that...right now tho I am a Gerber person...about $6000. give or tak but the warantees, tech support and reliability are "5 star".
Incidently I heard of a Gerber plotter for sale at Midwest Sign Supply in denver for about $3,500.
Might want to check it out.at that price it won't last long!

I've had 2 Rolands. Real work horses! However.... I've been using a Vinly Express Ultra Pro 60 (30" cutter) for the last 3 or 4 years now. Think I paid $3200 for it. This thing is FAST, tracks wonderfully, and best of all.... it's QUITE! Never had a problem with it. Has something like 5 or 600 grams of force. Will cut in the neigborhood of 44 inches a SECOND (Scary)!
I have the pounce option and it works like a charm. Have nothing bad to say about this machine.
Hey, good luck in the buz! We've got the greatest jobs in the world! (How many of your buddies can't wait to get up in the morning and go to work)? Or to try something new whenever you can?

From my limited experience the VE plotter (VE PRO 24") has been quite good. It interfaces with corel as well, you can cut directly from corel without any bridge program. You just have to download the drivers. Signwarehouse doesn't tell you about this, kinda lame I think. But thanks to a few VERY helpful people on this board, I found out about this little 'trick'.
Actually, I think it was Jim Dogget who told me about the corel-cutting drivers. I think my next plotter will be a Summa.

I got the rare bird OP is talking about, the Roland PNC 1050 15" pin-feed. It never let me down, though I later bought a Graphtec 24" friction feed & recently added the Gerber Envision 375, but I will keep my antique as a tructy back-up.

The question is, where do you want to take this? If all you are going to do is cut vinyl and make patterns, then Roland with Corel is the way to go. If you plan on getting into, digital graphics, cut sandblasted material, thick retro reflective vinyl, add a router, you might think about Signlab or Flexi-Sign, with a Graphtec 5100 or Summa-head plotter. I have a Graphtec 4100, and a Roland PNC 960, the Graphtec blows the Rolands door off, but at a price. My Roland is a decent plotter, but tracking is not that good, I used a Summa at a vehicle graphics shop, I worked it non-stop, with no problems. I design in Illustrator, then export into Flexi-Sign for output, or on my Mac, I design in Illustrator and cut using Magi-sign. Good Luck Rick

...... once you choose a vinyl cutter the next step is to look into a fleet of tractor trailers !.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... LMAO... the subject just won't DIE! .... Actually I am a total GERBER NERD since 1982.... but things are changing in Manchester, Ct for the worse in my never to be humble opinion.
-------------------- "No excuses!.... No regrets!..."
Why buy a fleet of trucks when you could have the "lot lizard special"? This vehicle comes complete with a fully functional wet bar in the front of the trailer. The rear of the trailer features a complete poker table setup. That's right... Liquor in the front, poker in the rear...
Mike Meyer bought this rig new (he's a lot older than he looks) and took meticulous care of it. He only used it for pick up and deliveries from the supply house. On sundays. Only when it wasn't raining. Driving real slow. Honest.
If Grundy comes around, tell him to bring real money and there is no credit. We wouldn't want him to be spending more than he makes... LOL!
Sorry I got off topic. I have a short attention span.
Have a great one!
