For those interested, I finally have found a solution to getting workers comp insurance. In Florida, since July 1 anyone doing work on a project with a total value of $250,000 or more must be covered by workers comp insurance. I could find no one to write it for my small company, 3 employees, so I signed up with an employee leasing company and have to pay my wife as an employee. (giving us 4 total employees). The cost is going to be about $150 a week and they take care of filing the 941 and unemployment reports. So now my company has no employees.... I guess the price of signs just went up.

Believe me, if you were required to have a contractors license, you would have received the '$250,000 project' notice in the mail.
Here in Lee County, if you do installations, you're required to have a Contractors License, a minimum of $100,000 liability insurance and workmans comp. ins. A sole proprietor can file for workmans comp. exemption for $50.00 every two years.
Oh! And if ya leave the shop with materials for anything other than a delivery, more than likely you'll need a PERMIT!
Happy trails, Cher.
