Last call for the first (possibly annual) Letterville Panel Swap!
I'll be drawing names tomorrow night and sending them out via e-mail to all the participants. If you have been thinking about it, now's the time to e-mail me your name and mailing address.
There's no set theme this time around. I think if you want a theme to get you going, let's just base it on "Letterville".
If you have been away and missed the previous posts you can read them here-

As you know this is my first panel swap thing, and it's exciting to see it grow to epic proportions. I'm trying to imagine all these panels in one room, which is not going to be, but still...what a trip THAT would be. It got me wondering...have there been panel displays in the past? I know they're displayed at meets and in our trade magazines, but has there ever been a serious effort to show these to the general public? I mean this could be worthy of a museum or something. Might even make the national news media if some press releases were sent out. What a great boost for the "keepers of the craft" image. Think of all the young people that might get inspired for the first time!Think of the people who might want one for their living room, taking the signpainters art to a gallery level...
You might be a letterhead if you dream alot......

Another idea could be, if next time, we picked a charity or organization to base our panels on. Instead of swapping with each other, maybe they could all be sent somewhere to be auctioned off. I could see that being picked up by the media.
I'd like to explore something like this a little more.

Hey Terry, they do that at the Lead East meet. Frank Manning at One Shot can put you in touch with the organizers. They have a traveling group of guys they call the 'legends of pistriping' the go to all the hot rod shows and show of and sell panels and such to raise moeny for charity.

The Rat Fink Reunions out here used to auction off panels and trash cans and such for charity - I think MADD was Ed Roth's gig, I don't know if they still do.
And there was a guy in Las Vegas a couple years back who wanted to open a gallery for showing and selling sign and pinstriping art as ART. I think his name was Frank Magoo? I don't know what ever happened to Frank's idea, I heard his health was in jeopardy, hope he's OK.
