Hi Everyone! I know this should probably be posted under the classifieds but figured it might catch someones attention in this section:
I am in the process of cleaning out stuff from my old shop and came across some boxes of stuff that I bought from a former neon shop building before the building was demolished.
One box had an envelope with correspondance addressed to the long-defunct Maritime Neon Sign Co in Moncton, New Brunswick. This company was closed in or around the mid 60's so this stuff sat in the attic of the old shop until I cleaned it out in 1999.
1) A cover letter (Nov. 25th, 1947) and 8 price sheets on glass, electrodes and all supplies and neon shop equipment from Haydu Sales Co (Haydu Bros sales agents)in Plainfield NJ. The prices are really nice... $20/100 Pyrex Sleeve Electrodes, $4.55 10mm glass stopcock, $4.75 for B10 or Neon flasks, $9./100 15 mm electrodes, Vacuum pump oil @ $1.90/Gal, etc, etc. There is even a lot of listings for Oxygen burners (for pyrex work I presume). I'll even throw is a photocopy of a Haydu ad that hung in my old shop showing 15" ribbon fires with floor stand - $49.75 and Cenco Megavac Pumps with base and motor for $198.00. 5pt. crossfires with mixer were only $17.85!
2). A catalog from the Northern Electric Company, probably from around the same time as the above stuff. They sold Jefferson Transformers and this catalog has tons of pics and pricing on everything from door bell supplies, to industrial lighting and step-up transformers, household lighting fixtures and even the full selection of 'modern' home appliances... fridges, stoves, hi-fi's, wringer washers and Hammond Organs This book is a look back into a long forgotten time when customer service meant getting a person on the phone (just look at all the ppl in the office pics) and not voice mail messages. 447 pages thick.
3). Cover letters (May 11 & 13, 1948) and literature from Adler Silhouette Letter Co., of Illinois. The literature and spec sheets are for theatre marquee letters and faces... and not the flat letter of today! Really nice looking 3-D aluminum and plastic letters.
4). Cover page from George E. Watson Company in Chigago, Watson Painter's Supplies and Brushes. The catalog was #75 and it has blue, white and red lettering and stars on the cover, with "victory edition" printed on it.
Just the postal rates listed on the flip side are great... Air mail: 9.6 cents, first ounce is 6 cents, eash additional ounce is also 6 cents.
I want to sell this stuff as one lot. Considering the 30+ years it sat in the attic of the old unheated building it fared pretty well, just water stains and baked on dust particles for the most part, of course the paper is yellowed and somewhat brittle. But all the printing and pictures are clear as ever!
Have no idea what this stuff is worth, but after comparing similar old document sales online, I'd say that $85us including postage would be fair. But always open to offers
