Hi, only one more sleep til' I fly to N.C. to Shep's Wood Graining Course!

I land in Durham Thurs. nite, and will drive up to Mt. Airy on Fri. Looking at my atlas(not a lot of detail) looks like 200 mi. +/-.
What i'd like to do is: Stay off major highways(unless time is tight),Visit a couple Leterheads, the paintin' variety, (or a mix), and get in a little singletrack mountainbike action. Hopefully can rent a bike from a local shop, got my shoes, helmet, seat, gloves and crash insurance!!

Any route/road/info gladly received.

Thanks, West Meets East!!

To be exact there aren't that many side roads to Mt Airy, that I can recommend. But once ya get there you will only be a few miles from the blue ridge parkway which is one of the most scenic highways in the natl park system on the east coast. The most practical route to the seminar is going to be I-40 west to Winston-Salem then US 52 north to Mt Airy. These are interstate highways so you will not be allowed to ride bicycles on them.Be aware there is alot of construction in progress in the Greensboro area so allow an extra time for traffic delays( usually 1/2 to 1 hr extra) and please be careful around that area.

Timi is of course correct. I-40 is pretty much it for a route from Durham to Mt. Airy - the good news is that it's not as much as 200 miles. I drive from Durham in a little over an hour, and from here to "Mayberry" is 36 miles.
I am ONE mile off the interstate (Bus. 40) in Winston-Salem, and there is always a cup of coffee for a traveling letterhead.
(I'd love to see you) just call
If I know it ahead of time, I'll see if I can strongarm Timi to show up, too

CJ... this is sounding better all the time!!

Thanks Timi, Hopefully, the road delays will be minimal at night.

Myra, thanks, actually, I'm hoping that Timi will be at Shep's.
I've hooked up with some mountainbikers in Charlotte, am headed down there thurs. night. Riding Friday, and then head north to Mt. Airy. W/S looks close, I'm hoping to get down your way mon. or tues. or latest wed am. all depends on paintin' n' ridin'

I AM STOKED!!!
