I was asking several folks in chat tonight about what their favorite part was of the meet they attended.
All of you who have attended a meet recently, please tell us your favorite part about the experience...especially new folk! I am researching for my own selfish reasons, and would love to hear your tales! We could learn more if we shared more.
Thank you in advance, LindaSilverEagle

Just being able to watch as a layout is started or a technique if used for effect. The completed panels are fantastic, but studying the createive process is very captivating.

Dennis! Thank you for such kind words! It was a pleasure meeting you too!
(pssst, I think that's why they call them meets, it's all about meeting each other in person and making new friends...well, the learning thingie is kinda kewl too! LOL)
I hope we can meet up again sometime! Somebody was trying to organize meets in Dixie in chat last night, and I laughingly told em, we have one just about anytime. I hope to throw one in the future, partly why I was asking. It's so much fun to hear somebody talk about going when they're passionate about the craft and they fall in love with it all over again when they go to a meet for the first time!
Well, Dennis, how long you reckon the Martians and the Cajuns will need to come back down to earth? LOL

Yes Santo, I missed that from art classes when I was young 'n tender. We had so much fun during the creative processs!
Now that I'm teaching, I like to go to the meets to be the kid again hehehe. Sometimes I think I absorb more than I will ever remember, but it all goes to a special place. I coudn't tell you how many times I've pulled a line and suddenly words of wisdom would run through my head, just in time to make me smile.

We haven't met yet Linda, but I hope we will soon. Been to many meets in many years and each time there is a great experience. I always think it can't get any better than this, but it always does. Just to be asked to paint a portrait on a mural is the way to make my day, but the meeting of new people is something very special. With an average of about 200 people at a meet, someone singles me out to make the entire meet worth while. To be able to help a first timer is very rewarding and they are very grateful.
I tell folks that a Letterhead meet for me is better than the Olympics, the World Series and the Super Bowl all rolled up in one.

I would consider it an honor to meet you as well! I've heard tell about your portraits and I've seen some of your work on the BB. I'd love to watch you do one sometime!
I guess for me, aside from getting out of the house for a while, it was meeting new people. Some I sort of knew from here on the BB, some I had never met at all. All of them without exception great folks. The next best part was learning all sorts of new stuff---even us old f---- can learn now and then.
If I could only remember what it was.

In Banff, when someone took the time to show me (a non painter) how to paint a feather. (Mike Lavallee) I was so charged from learning something new I just wanted to paint the night away.
Aside from that, meeting those I've only chatted with or through posts here. It was a very surreal experience for me, at the same time, so very familiar.

I couldn't make it to RT and Kathy's meet for obvious reasons, but for me the highlight of any meet is the impromtu dessert sculpting contest. Should be mandatory at all meets during the first night's social activities. Most off the rack menus will give you at least a half dozen different desserts at any given table so you have the chance to try mixed media from your neighbors plate. David

I have no idea what a "non-painter" feels like. I've always painted, since I was wee little. But if you say you had a blast, then there is absolutley no reason for me to doubt you! LOL I'm glad you got meet Mike, he's fascinating to watch, huh?
Bill,
That is such a sweet offer! I'm still unpacking and finding tons of pictures. Not very many of them have me in them, I was usually the one holding the camera!
How about I let you paint one of my girls? Well you did say "My Favorite." LOL
David,
Yer sompn else dude. Here, you can have my tapioca pudding! Forks up, mate!

Linda I have only been to 2 meets. But I do remember how excited I was to put faces to some of the people here in Letterville. Ahhh the smell of 1shot and gold size ! with a table full of every color you can imagine. Everyone was there because they have passion for signmaking. Everyone there had a smile on their face. Can't wait til the next one!

I still have your business card and finally was able to take a photo of the kids I really like. Let me know when you are ready to do some carving and I will send the photo with the money. I really love your carvings of your grandchildren. Someday I hope to be able to carve faces like you do.
Thanks,
Debbie

Hi Linda, The picture came through, but it is not very sharp and each time it is printed, the little one's face is cut off on the right side. If you could send the photo by mail, I'll send it back when the painting is done.
Hi Debbie, Just send the picture (s) and no money until the job is done, O.K.?

Thank you Cheryl! You should see them now! I've had that picture for so long, tucked neatly into a ceramic frame with roses around the edges. The frame busted in the move. I always kept that picture by my bed so I could remember who I was when I woke up from a long night painting...LOL.
I will put the photo in the mail. If you could make one of each girl from the photo would be nice. That way they each can have their own many years from now when I am done with them.
Or just do one carving with both girls if that would be easier for you. I am willing to pay for two carvings if you are willing to spend the time carving them. Look at the photo and let me know later. Take your time as there is no hurry. Hardest part was getting the right photo for you to work with. I think you will enjoy doing these two.
Thanks,
Debbie
