I'm at a crossroads ..... I designs w/ Colel 9 and cut vinyl w/ Casmate basic. I know how to use Casmate clean up tools very well and also have all my old customer file in Casmate.
I am getting a new computer w/ win 2000.......Casmate is not compatable!

Any negatives to loading in Win 98?

What should I do?

Corel user, can I convert the Caswin files?

I know several of the new versions of competitive sign cutting programs will import the scv files created by older versions of casmate,..the one that comes to mind is signlab,...

your gettin a new computer.....have them load it with WIN 98SE. the older casmate will run in it, and you wont have all the problems that come with win2000 or XP. question you need to ask yourself..."what does win2000 or XP do that i cant do in WIN98SE?" and then what wont it let me do that ia can do now? think you will make a right choice.

Jim,

You could have a drive caddy fitted with a second HDD. Load Win98 on one drive and Win2000 on the other. With both drives on the primary channel all you need do to switch between operating systems is to turn the key on the caddy on/off. Extra cost; the drive (£60 about $80?) and the caddy (£16 about $21?).

Regards,
Arthur

Win 98 SE is almost perfect for sign people. I have em all.I tried em all. Win 2K server..Win 2k.. Win XP..

I use exclusivly win 98SE. Absolutly no problems.

Also, if you really wish to try diff OS's..You can use something like windows commander. This will allow you to dual boot different OS's on the same machine from one hard drive on one computer.

I think your solution is very short term, since Ca-mate is no longer being supported, I would at least toy around with getting a new program that supports your old file format, Signlab and Flexi being the ones I know. And start learning those, or master Corel when cleaning up files. The problem I see is your dongle shorting out in time and then you will be in a little trouble, at least if you upgrade, and you can keep your Cas-Mate dongle you have the best of both worlds, I think Amiable had an offer to upgrade and keep your old Cas-Mate key, but I think it already ended, I would try to talk to a salesman about keeping your dongle, and upgrade to a newer software.

Thanks for the input.......After thinking it over, I think I will go w/ Win 98 and stay w/ Casmate for a while but start learning CoCut or something............

But how can I convert the Casmate files?? Can I export them and keep as EPS?? Or would this take 6000 hrs at the keyboard?
