Got an email announcing a new outdoor durable machine. Anyone know what it is? I would guess it's a new solvent-ink machine. It reads as follows:
"What are you waiting for? Blazing print speed? Stunning color and detail? Print-and-cut versatility? Rugged reliability? Outdoor durability?
The waiting is over. Seybold San Francisco. September 2002. www.rolandpro2.com 09/10/02"

I have the inside scoop from my knowledgable sources: The new HiFiJet Pro2 (I think is what it will be called) and soon after the CammJet Pro2 are newer versions of the venerable HiFiJets and CammJets with new, faster head technology.
Epson is releasing a new, faster printer (the 10600) so Roland (who uses Epson head technology) gets to upgrade their printers with the last generation Epson 10000 heads. Pricing will probably be similar to the current models. Speed will be the main advantage, which was one of the few areas the older Rolands didn't excel in.
Inks will be the same indoor Dye or Outdoor Pigmented. You get outdoor durability only with lamination.

Is oracal coming out for media for the soljet? We tried the 651 series by accident on the soljet, and after it dried, he ink stuck better than on the Avery material...

The Roland SolJet uses inks that are not true solvents but require a very specific matched media. Call me if you want the inside scoop on that material, but the bottom line is that until/if (we're looking into it) we develop a media specifically for that printer like we did for the SolventJet, you are very limited in your media selection and will pay quite a bit more than you would for a standard vinyl.

I know all about the paying extra for the media! The Avery product is the Cast Vinyl for the Soljet, works great, but REALLY pricey! If you got something in the works I would LOVE to see it! Thanks
