As we grown we are adding new machines and computer. We now have 3 desktop computers and 1 laptop. 2 plotter and have a new system on the way ( 36 inch encad printer and plotter) Running Gerber Elite & Select software. My question is.....Each computer comes with its own set of fonts, we have other font disc like Sign DNA and so on....But there are some font on one computer that are not on the other computer and vise-versa. I'd say I have approx 3000 fonts. ... How do I get each computer to have all the same fonts and should I load all the fonts? Is there a risk in having too many fonts? Any Tips, Tricks & Suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Chuck

Chuck,

You might try running them on a network. I've been told that's how stuff like that is done, but not my area of expertise. Good Luck.

Chuck, just a few things.

First, don't try to copy out of the fonts directory in Win 98. It confuses the program. Drag and Drop the font out of the fonts folder to another folder, then drag and drop it back into fonts, and it will leave the copy behind.

Windows poops out somewhere around 700 or 800 fonts. Fonts slow down windows anyway, and you don't use 3000 fonts everyday, so I would say it is a waste of energy to make your machines all the same.

We used Corel at our place. Corel has a save function that embeds the font into the document. It makes the file bigger, but it does away with the font problem. You design and save with the font embedded, then go to the other computer and open the file over the network and you are there.

If you have a network, you can create a master directory of fonts on one machine. Then if you need a font, you can just reach over the network and get a copy without foraging thru all your disks. If creating a master directory, consider using a classification system. Mine is Fonts from Corel 7, Fonts from SignDNA, Fonts from Anchorblanks, and so on. You might want to do something different like Display Fonts, Script Fonts, Block Fonts, and so on. Whatever works for you. Vic G
