There are those residents of the southwest part of the state that perfer the name Acadian.
And there are those residents of undetermined color that perfer Creole.
Many folks that live on the bayous and down river in southeast Louisiana are traditionally known as: BOOG-A-LEE. Many of the French speaking people were called "boogs" and greeted each other similiarly: "Como se va, Boog?"
But a coonass is a spot about 1/2" in diameter under a racoon's tail.
Glad to hear that you finally talked to the "boss" and she said ya could come!! I'll have the gas and the oil, but I'll have to pick you up in the truck. The van is no more:( It's actually in better hands. I sold it to someone that treats it like it's a Mercedes!!
OK guys, you heard the news, MIKE MEYER/SIGNPAINTER, Mazeppa,MN has threatened to be in Ponchatoula!! The place will never be the same!! You gotta be there!
Now is the time............SHIRTS? SIZES? c'mon!!
See ya...............

I've heard about & read about many meets this past year, but for some reason, this is the one making me feel like I'm really missing a good thing I would have liked to be a part of. Between remodeling a new home & getting married next month, Sept is too soon to be travelling, but one of these days I will look forward to another meet that feels like I'm supposed to be there. Have a great time Kathy & R.T. as I'm sure you & everyone else will.

Sorry Santo but I am very uneducated when it comes to the Cajun stuff, that's why I'm coming down! I'll call ya whatever you want me to, just don't call me late for the Cajun Chow!
Hey Doug, why not get married at the meet? You won't have to pay for a band, there's already food...I'm sure they could find an English speaking Justice of the peace, (Mark Fair could do the ceremony as well!)
R.T., could you make the truck a TOW truck? Let's go to a junk yard and buy a late 60's Ford Galaxie like the one Burt Reynolds drove in "Gator" , stripe it then plunge it in the swamp! (Just tryin to fit in!)
What else should I prepare for Santo?
No ice rinks there so I gots ta do sumptin!

Looks like we have work beaucoup to do now. Started on the chopper pad this morning, but the "Coonass Militia" (Louisiana Air National Guard)showed up and stopped all work. They said a Bamer Boy and a Yankee must have special clearance before entering Louisiana air space.
Doug, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Yes, we can do a ceremony here! (Santo, don't tell him about the traditional Chiverie (sp?)!
Sonny, glad you're coming! Can't think of anything right now except hog-tieing John Smith and dragging him down with ya!
Joe, without you here we don't have a carver to chop onions and peel garlic. Look out Cheryl! Thanks for the door prizes.
This is beginning to feel like a family reunion. Seeing friends and meeting new ones.

Mike, you just heard part of one of the oldest coonass replies in the book. One thing you had better be prepared for is to help ice down some liquid refreshment. I was talking to Kathy about iceing the drinks. She and R.T. have something in mind already. The Galexie gave up the ghost, recently, along with all forward gears. She got me home though. I drove it reverse 12 - 10 miles. No problem execpt for getting pulled over for running that stop sign.

i don't know of anyone who gets stereotyped more than Southerners. They can dish it up and serve it out too! Case in point: Private Mark Fair, he's going to make a fine soldier one of these days, he's just misunderstood too many times. As some of you know, you don't mess with junkyard dogs and you don't get in Pvt. Fair's case, he'll rip yo head off! That's the guy I want on my side! I enjoy the South, everytime I been there it's been great! That's why I'm going to CCCCCCC KATMANDU! I've applied for my Yankee Visa in Atlanta. Just waiting for General Jef Davis to sign it.
You know what this means now don't cha? This means that all you Dixie Letterheads gotta come up to Minnesota in the dead of Winter and live life MY way for a weekend!
Can you see Mark Fair on a Snowmobile? How bout R.T. on Hockey Skates?
Look out Kathy, I'm bringing em out of the woodwork now!

Kathy, I'll bring at least one pair of 'Shoots" with me cuz I'm a little nervous about goin' barefoot in swamp country. I'm lookin' forward to trying all this cajun food as long as y'all remeber that insects & reptiles are NOT two of the major or minor food groups, OK?
Mark, are you & the band still opening for David Allan Coe next weekend?? If so, were you serious about wearing a pair of SHOOTS on stage. I might be able to get you hooked up in time so...how big a foot ya got there boy & don't say 12 inches, OK???

Hey Mike, If you are anywhere near the Mississippi river, you might consider a river trip. Do you have a bateau?
Si, I see you are speaking Cajun already. In another post, you "GAR-RON-TEE'd" something.
Curtis, that little fellow was actually caught in Texass, over in the Deer Park complex. You know they grow everything bigger over in Texass. I know we've got to get the pot stirred up to get more of the Texans to come over.

Wish I could make it down R.T. but I got too much going on. I would like to have a shirt anyway.(large) Let me know how much and where to send the funds. I'll try to paint up a panel and send down for the meet.

Pvt. Fair, ya got it, I'm firin'up my trusty ol' diesel powered telephone & see what I can do for ya! Wish I could make the show (last time I saw mr. coe he was playin' at Gilly's in Baytown near Houston....turned out to be about a 4 day night when we wound up in the middle of Mardi Gras in New Orleans with...uhhh, better tell ya 'bout that later) Anyway, don't worry about the 30% mark-up, I'll put you in 'em at my cost, just take care of the FedEx & oh yeah, the handling fee You'll have pair #4 (Alton & Si are in line ahead of you but I'm sure they won't mind if we slip you in a rush order)
Si, Glad to see you're gonna be there to represent Kalipornia and maybe your right about eatin' reptiles (do they really Bar-B-Q gator?)
Santo, I thought coonass was promounced "Boog A Lee", now do I have that right or do I need to sign-up for the Remedial Cajun workshop with Sgt. Meyer? And would ya please tell him that he doesn't really need a Visa because you'll also take MasterCard or American Express??

Yes Chris, we really do BBQ gator. We also have Alligator Sauce Piquant, Gator head cheese, Gator Stew, Fried Gator. The meat is beautiful.
We also eat Nutria, crawfish (mudbugs),turtle, choupique, gar, or anything that doesn't eat us first.
If you, Mark and Si are showing up in "Shoots", then Santo, Curtis, R.T.,Brousard, Quebedeaux and myself are gonna have to break out the old "Cajun Reboks"!
O.K. now you Cajun Cowboys, don't tell what they are, we'll just keep em guessing till they get here, yeh?
BTW Chris, the best horsemen aroun dese part be Cajun. There is actually a rodeo arena in the Wal-Mart parking lot in one of the S.W. LA towns.
Si, thanks for the offer. A little Calipornia sunshine would be great. If we think of something else we'll let you know.

Yea, believe it or not, I've got some of those cajun reeboks, I bought them when I drove concrete trucks. They are the white rubber boots that are worn a lot in a small town not far from here that processes a lot of shrimp, the town is called Delcambre (pronounced delcalm) they call'em Delcambre Reeboks.
Looks like this is gonna be one hell of a meet. Can't wait!

AAAAiiiieeeeee!! We gonna have some fun yeah!! Mark Yearwood, I will be happy to reserve a shirt for you and too bad you just can't come get it.
Ok guys, one of the biggest problems we are coming across is getting enough panels for everyone. Since Kathy and I are both small, low volume shops, we don't carry a lot of clout with the bigger suppliers. So, if you know any supplier that would donate a few 18x24 or 12x18 aluminum blanks to us , please let me know. I have a body shop that will paint some for me if I can just get some.
Time is gettin short and things are starting to come together. Kathy and I are on the phone every day or so trying to make sure we have everything covered. Our main concern is that everyone, first and foremost, have a good time and walk away from here with a better feeling about themselves knowing that they learned something. Secondly, that everyone will have door prizes, etc. to take home with them. We will have a fridge to paint and raffle as we did at Duck Soup and a couple of the other meets. That tradition started with the Australian meets and everbody seems to enjoy it. Don Coplen is now the proud owner of the awesome fridge that Rod did at Duck Soup last year.We are getting quite a bit of stuff in from suppliers for door prizes, etc. and hopefully more is on the way.
Kathy and I have talked a lot about things that might go on at the meet. Let's just say that we're gonna "pass a good time"!!
I need more shirt sizes from folks that haven't sent them to me. Send 'em in so we can get an idea of what we need. Time waits for no man.........or woman......or even signpainters like you!
Thanks to all you guys here that have posted and I hope that we'll have a meet to remember for a long time. Neither Kathy or I have ever hosted a meet before , so be kind.
See ya, R.T.

Just a little mention that the New Orleans Intl. Airport is not that far from Kathy's for those that might be flying in. 30-40 minutes or so on the interstate mostly.
