This might help someone. I didn't like the look of this large stripe stopping at the tail light, but then I didn't want to slit the vinyl either, so I made this template first....
In this photo I taped up a piece of paper and then "eye balled" the top and bottom lines and trimed it out.
Here is the first cut to see how close it is and then I trimed as necessary to fit. Get it to fit as flat to the contour as possible.
After trimming to fit I outlined it onto another peice of paper for scanning.
Here's the result and I mirrored the other side.
I lined the edges up and hinge taped it.
Installed the left side and then the right. It worked for me! Good luck.
