Hi folks. Does anyone have access to a chart showing the optimum size of letters required, for reading from specific distances? We received a curious spec. ( from an architect, who else ) that calls for signage that can be read from 15 metres ( about 50 feet). No size of sign face is given, but the requirement is to size the panels to accommodate the lettering. We used to have such a chart but can't locate it right now. No doubt it will turn up right after someone has responded with the answer.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Ken, the Gemini numbers are so-called maximum impact heights.
A person with 20/20 vision in "test" conditions can read a 1" letter at 50 feet.
When you adjust for the normal range of ages, eye conditions, and lighting (shadows, etc) the rule of thumb is 1" per 25 feet.
The so-called maximum impact height is 1" per 10 feet.
I got the 1" per 25 feet from an architectural manual.
What you can do is run off a 5", 2", and 1" letter on your laserjet, stick them on the outside wall of your shop and check it out from various distances. 1" per 25' will work.
