The other day my wife asked me for a "Cecil Sanders pencil". That got me to thinking.
He was wonderful person that had a lettering sign supply business. He was based out of Indiana and in the summer he would visit sign shops in a cube van stocked with various items.I lived in Wisconsin and he would stop by every summer.
He introduced me to blue handle Luco quills, he made his own showcard, he had great prices on gold leaf, 1-shot, Ronan and all other supplies. He had a small offset press and would print his own catalogs and flyers.
Before he retired I would frequently order from him. There would always be something useful tucked in the box. A free pint of paint, charcoal sticks, note pads etc. But those maroon colored pencils were just the best.

I found a 1977 Catalog. The earlier one I referred to was the Jack Kaufman Catalogue which I ordered supplies from too. The order I placed from Saunders was for: 1 Gilders tip, 2 1/2 pints of Clear Fibroseal, 3 1/2 pints of WW Wildow Spar, 1 Mahl Stick, 1 #2 and 1 #4 Brown Camel Hair Outliner. The total was $22.03 plus $3.25 shipping to Canada.

Not to steal the thunder from Cecil Sanders, but remember the guy that figured out how to use over and undersized router template bits so he could route letters into a board and cut letters that fit perfectly into that recess with the grain going the other direction? He also sold router bits and was the first to introduce me to spiral bits that had flat tips.
