Does anyone here still occasionally paint or airbrush on vinyl ? What is a good brand of paint for this ? Krylon in spray cans used to work - deka was good but seeks to be out of production now . Also if anyone has a good printer and might want to print a couple parts of jobs we could talk a bit about that seperately. Thanks!

It's been a while, but I used to do a lot of this. This is what worked for me:
"Frog Juice Sunscreen Clear 7000"". Available from far-from-normal.com.
Clean high performance vinyl with alcohol.
With a foam brush, I would apply a coat of the base color of lettering enamel with a few drops of the frog juice, mixed well.
Immediately I would airbrush the next color while wet.
Next day apply a thin coat of frog juice, let dry, then weed. I always used a low tac application tape and spray with water before removing application tape.

When you say "Paint on vinyl" do you mean the type of vinyl that is used for lettering etc. I do paint on vinyl. Small murals, pinups, cartoons, even some lettering. I color sand it first with a red Scotchbrite pad, then paint it. And when it is dry, I place clear vinyl on top. I use 1-hot lettering enamel. I have also found, the clear vinly needs to extend around the painted vinyl about 1/4 inch. I had some artwork get ruined by a pressure washer. It took off the clear because the spray got inbetwix (new word) the paint and the vinyl. Paint and the top coat of vinyl just came right off.

A 100% acrylic will adhere tenaciously to vinyl without any prep. I use high performance vinyl as masking for painted awnings and paint them with SW Superpaint or Behr Premium Plus and the paint that gets on the masking is on there for good. It would never peel or come off. Don't fret and make your job too complicated, just do it!
