A customer has supplied a pdf file of a map. Can view it in Reader, but can't open/import the file in Corel X3, Inkscape, or Illustrator cs2. Inkscape finally opened it but the file was jumbled.
Need to get the file into corel x3. My programs may be too old to process the file.
Would like the file as corel x3 and stay vector till I export it for the printer. (It will be printed at about 42" x 54")
Anyone have a workaround, or have newer versions that might be able to open and resave it for me?

Send it to me and I'll see what I can do. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro so that might open it where I could get it into Illustrator and then save it as an eps which should open in Corel.

Hi Dave, I just downloaded the trial for acrobat. Opened the file fine, and then saved as eps. X3 still wont import the file. Then I exported the file from Acrobat as a large jpg. Will print a sample tomorrow to see how it prints. It might be usable.
If not, I will send the file for you to try. Thanks for the help, Tony

Tony, I have CorelDraw X7 and Adobe reader. I can import most newer PDF files directly into Corel X7 and then save back to Corel X3 format, either as a CDR file or an EPS file.
If Dave S. can't help, I might be able to.

Place the file in Illustrator, don't try to open it. While it's still selected go to object>flatten transparency than expand appearance. That should give you the vector map if indeed it is vector.

Dave Sherby, I was able to open the file in the trial version of acrobat. Saving as eps wouldn't import into my version of Corel. Saved it as a jpeg and that worked ok. The file is slightly pixelated, but will probablywork for printing.
Bill, I tried to place the pdf in illustrator, but it gave me an error message and wouldn't load.
Dave Grundy, that would be perfect if I could keep it editable and get it into corel. I will send you the file and see if x7 will let you import it.

What I do is open the file in Acrobat and resave as a PDF... I have also opened it in CS6 and saved as a PDF...
There is something about some of the newer PDFs that Corel doesn't like.
Fortunately, there are work arounds.
