My younger brother has purchased a small airplane and has asked me to consider doing some graphics on it for him.
This would be something new for me and I have a lot of questions. Do any of you know if there is any special certification required to place graphics on an aircraft? Are there restrictions/requirements on the type of material used and any ideas what would be the best material to use?
I think I recall at one time in the past reading on this BullBoard that the FAA had some rather strict rules including knowing the precise amount of weight the graphics would add to the craft.
Just trying to cover all bases to see if this is something I really want to get into. Any information or comments would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I remember hearing something about vinyl being of a certain standard-so it doesnt't fall off in flight and block an engine intake...or something.

back when ORACAL 1st came into production, one of their advertising tools was a C-47(old WW2 cargo plane, with VINYL ALL OVER IT))) so i guess it sticks. the only problem i ever heard of vinyl coming off due to speed was the LAND SPEED RECORD JET CAR. they had it at boniville and had to have actual brush sign painter recreate the advertisements. my question is WHAT IS COMPOSITION of the surface you would apply the vinyl to??? i have done a pounce patter for a guys airplane, and it had to be a specific size to meet FAA RULES. also cant use wacko fonts, has to look close to AMARILLO..... http://www.mooneymite.com/articles-miscellaneous/registration_marking/registration_marking.html
