HELP! Paint looks blotchy! I just completed a v-carved HDU sign and now the paint looks terrible. I primed with FSC88 then sanded. Then sprayed first coat with a new HVLP sprayer (I realized I need a stronger compressor so I only put on a light coat) So then I rolled on the paint (SW Exterior Satin.2 coats, Then I applied 1shot to the lettering and applied leaf. Then I rolled (small foam roller) 2 more coats. It looked really good in the shop. But once it was out in the sun and on the building...arrggghhh. Now I have to figure out how to repaint? Thinking of removing sign, masking the carved lettering and spraying with different sprayer?

I looked at your photo, Jeff. All I can guess is either contaminated paint, or a sudden temp and/or humidity change occurring before the paint was dry. Just a guess.

Hi Jeff. I think that your problem stems from the multiple coats that you applied. Each coat has to fully cure before applying another coat over top. The problem with water borne paints is that while they may feel dry to the touch, they may not be fully cured, and that takes the proper amount of time.( check on the instructions as to how long the manufacturer advises to wait between coats ) That blotchy appearance is probably the result of your previous coats attempting to continue their curing process, and in doing so, are affecting the finish of your top coat. Time might be your friend in that waiting might fix the problem ?

Yes, I did not post photos as I don't think they would show on here. So, if I leave it will the blotchy look go away? Or do I need to remove the sign, bring it back to the shop, let it "thoroughly" cure then recoat?
