I'm making a 5'x10' sign for a business here in town and I would like to use Gemini extruded plastic letters. It is a double-faced sign with brick pillars. Has anyone ever applied the letters to diabond using silicone or acrylic cement alone. Or would it need to have holes drilled for the studs. Do a 2c- combo (stud and pad mount)
Or what other substrate material should I use.
This is a first time project for me using 3D letters.
Thanks for any info. Dita

I usually get studs and put them along the top of each letter at least, make a drill pattern and drill the holes. Then put a small piece of 3M VHB tape on the other pads. Plus I squirt some GE silicone adhesive on those same pads. With those top studs taking the weight of hanging, plus the tape holds tight until the silicone sets up. Works for me. Mick Samsel

Is this two separate panels with framework inbetween? I made a one sided flat mount sign of this size with dibond and stand off letters. Worked ok once it was up, but really too flexible trying to deliver. Was worried the letters would pop off when picking it up..lol A more rigid panel like alumalite would have easier to work with.

We talked about using 2 separate panels with framework in between. I'm looking to use 6mm alupanel. Is there a different substrate that I could use? Something 1" thick so I could use just one panel and letter both sides.

I've had letters pop off on flexible substrate and just don't trust it anymore. If I really wanted to use one sheet for both sides I would use Alumalite in the 10 mill and all pad mount using 3M VHB tape. But my preferred way is to use 2 sheets of Alupanel and stud mount with nuts. Letters are always secure and vandals would have to break a letter to remove it. I like Alupanel (I get mine from Wensco) because it's quite a bit cheaper than DiBond and I never did like DiBonds method of two different colors on the same panel. Alupanel is always the same color but one side is gloss and the other is matt finish.
